The song by Blue October "Falling in the Ocean" reminds me of feeling overwhelmed.

"In over my head" by the Fray.

I'm 3/4s way done with my first year of nursing school and the first time i heard this song i immediately put it with nursing...

    Hurry up and wait
So close, but so far away
Everything that you've always dreamed of
Close enough for you to taste
    But you just can't touch

You wanna show the world, but no one knows your name yet
Wonder when and where and how you're gonna make it
You know you can if you get the chance
In your face as the door keeps slamming
Now you're feeling more and more frustrated
And you're getting all kind of impatient waiting

    [Chorus:]
We live and we learn to take
    One step at a time
    There's no need to rush
    It's like learning to fly
    Or falling in love
    It's gonna happen and it's
    Supposed to happen and we
    Find the reasons why
    One step at a time

    You believe and you doubt
You're confused, you got it all figured out
Everything that you always wished for
Could be yours, should be yours, would be yours
    If they only knew

You wanna show the world, but no one knows your name yet
Wonder when and where and how you're gonna make it
You know you can if you get the chance
In your face as the door keeps slamming
Now you're feeling more and more frustrated
And you're getting all kind of impatient waiting

    [Chorus]

When you can't wait any longer
But there's no end in sight
when you need to find the strength
It's your faith that makes you stronger
The only way you get there
Is one step at a time

I haven't read through all of these yet, so not sure if it's on here...but I have been known to break into "Can I Get a Witness?" on the way to the pyxis. And to start vocalizing the "Mission Impossible" theme during codes...

You guys and gals are cracking me up with these.

I also have been the victim of "Yellow Submarine" and VeggieTales thanks to my kids...there's only so many times a coworker can hear the Stuff Mart rap before they are threatening to make you an ICU patient!

I am Comfortably Numb by Pink Floyd. I use it to relax, no booze or drugs needed with this song.

Mission Impossible during codes...that's a riot!

There's one I sing all the time by Rufus Wainwright:

My phone's on vibrate for you
God knows what all these new drugs do
I guess to have no more fears
But still I always end up in tears

    So call me
    Call me in the morning
    Call me in the night
    So call me
    Call me anytime you like

My phone's on vibrate for you
    For you

The first two lines especially are so pertinent as a hospice nurse.

    Danity Kane-Damaged.

Do, Do you got a first aid kit handy?
Do, Do you know how to patch up a wound?
    Tell me,
    are you patient,
    understanding?
Cause I might need some time to clear the hole in my heart and I
    I've tried every remedy
And nothing seems to work for me
    Baby, (baby)
this situation is driving me crazy
And I really wanna be your lady
But the one before you left me so

    [Chorus:]
    Damaged, damaged
    Damaged, damaged
I thought that I should let you know
    That my heart is
    Damaged, damaged
    So Damaged
And you can blame the one before
So how you gonna fix it, fix it, fix it
How you gonna fix it, fix it, fix it
(Baby I gotta know what you are gonna do?)
How you gonna fix it, fix it, fix it
(Baby I gotta know what you are gonna do?)
How you gonna fix it, fix it, fix it
(Baby I gotta know what you are gonna do?)

Do Do you got a first aid kit handy?
Do Do you know how to patch up a wound?
    Tell me,
    are you patient,
    understanding?
Cause I might need some time to clear the hole in my heart and I
You try to gain my trust
    Talking is not enough
    Actions speak louder than words
    You gotta show me something
My heart is missing some pieces
I need this puzzle put together again

    [Chorus]

    Can you fix my h-e-a-r-t
    Cause it d-a-m-a-g-e-d
    Can you fix my h-e-a-r-t
Tell me are you up for the challenge
    Cause my heart is

    Damaged,
    Damaged
I thought that I should let you know
    That my heart is
    Damaged
    So Damaged
And you can blame the one before

    Damaged,
    Damaged
I thought that I should let you know
    That my heart is
    Damaged
    So Damaged
And you can blame the one before
So how you gonna fix it, fix it, fix it
How you gonna fix it, fix it, fix it
How you gonna fix it, fix it, fix it
How you gonna fix it, fix it, fix it

    My heart is
    Damaged,
    Damaged,
    Damaged

    My heart is
    Damaged,
    Damaged,
    Damaged

    My heart is

    Damaged,
    Damaged

    My heart is
    Damaged,
    Damaged,
    Damaged

    My heart is
    Damaged

    Lets Get it On...

In ICU rotations, we were taking a break on the patio, and there were two pigeons doing just that...it had been a long day, so we put this song on from a girls ipod to provide them with "mood music"...everytime i see a pigoen, i sing it.

Ok so you just had to be there....

[QUOTE=NurseRotten;2191636] I am the unit DJ. I choose all the music that we listen to at night and I have been compiling a list of nursing related songs. So far I have a few and I need more suggestions. (My iPod is 30 gigs so help me out).
him of orders. I always joke that this is his pts singing. "Since you been gone, I can breathe for the first time."

My Lovin' (You're Never Gonna Get It) - En Vogue
Diladid... no you're never gonna get it, not this time. For the new admit that casually insists, "The only pain med that works for me is 4 mg of Dilaudid" when she comes in for left toe cellulitis.

Love this one! Reminds me of the pt who came in for the incision check s/p pacer implant and requested Dilaudid for where her IV from surgery had infiltrated. Um...let me think...No?:icon_roll

I know you're not alone on the night shift

I'll bet you're singing proud on the night shift

Get in from the mainline alright

    Shoot'em up bang, bang

Keep on with the post-op, don't stop till you get em up (sometimes I make up my own words to fit the music)

    working on the night moves

show me the way to go home, I'm tired and I wanna go to bed.
