Persistent new grad lands the job!!

Hello all! You may have seen my postings about panicking over how long the unemployment would last. It's finally over, I landed my dream job in the ICU. And I want to tell you DO NOT GIVE UP! This will pass, keep putting in your applications everywhere and following up. I called this hospital about two times a week for two solid months before I got an interview. HR told me it was because I was so persistent that they called me. So keep applying, keep calling, stop by and try to speak with HR, do whatever you have to ( politely and within reason ) that you can to catch their attention! Finding a job as a new grad isn't impossible, just more difficult than we imagined.

Just remember: This too shall pass.

Congrats!!! How long did it take you, if you don't mind me asking? Applying to accelerated BSN programs now and very concerned about what I am reading here with regards to jobs for new grads.

I graduated in May, took boards in July, interview September 19th, job offer yesterday. Good luck with your BSN. My advice is network as much as possible!

I hope my unemployment after I graduate will be temporary. I hope that my hospital will notice me while I am doing my preceptorship or my home department will hire me. I heard rumors yesterday that they plan to interview me.

Here's a big question that I have- I'm graduating from an ABSN program in December, and looking for jobs in Raleigh/Durham and also in Dallas where I lived before this program. I am having the hardest time getting a contact name/email/number in human resource departments in Dallas. I'd like to ask them simple questions about new grad positions, like when they will post, what the timing for interviews might be. Any ideas on how to break into the HR fortresses? I did get the name of a recruiter that an acquaintance used last year....no response to an email that I sent. Any tips would be great!! Thanks

Why not Google "Nurse Recruiter XYZ Hospital" or some such? Or search on LinkedIn?

I've found TONS of info on websites regarding the new grad programs in North Carolina.

Check current job listings, some places state "new grads do not apply. New grad positions are posted xyz and you need abc to apply".

For others check the websites of the facilities you are interested in and type "nurse residency" or "new grad" or "graduate nurse" or "nurse intern" or "RN residency" and any other combination you can come up with. Usually you will find at least some information on their website regarding when positions are posted.

Check current regular postings. But also keep in mind that if the posting says no experience required, they may not have a nurse residency job listing to apply to.

I applied to 10 positions and have received feedback from each one and had 3 offers to choose from, all as an out of state candidate. It can be done! Now to figure out how to move and where!!
