If the manager is interested in you she can go to HR and request your information. It's quite possible that your application was weeded out due to arbitrary criteria and never got past HR.

I would contact your friend and let them know about the status change and have them mention it to the manager. If the manager is interested then she can pursue it further with HR. Of course you can also try talking to the manager directly but that may not be possible if she's busy.

Also, you can call HR and ask them about your application. You can say that you saw the status change and wondered if something had happened, as the manager had specifically requested that you apply. That could make them re-open it and are what happened.

I applied for a billing position with the hospital in my area last year when my friend doing the hiring told me to apply. It took me calling HR and him calling them for him to get my application. Sometimes that's just the way it is with the big hospitals. Obviously this may not be the case for you but it's someplace to start. Good luck!

If that facility is getting "tons and tons of applicants", then they have plenty of more qualified (experienced) nurses to choose from. It's only logical that the hiring manager will select one of those candidates rather than a new grad who will need much more training & assistance to achieve full competency. I DO NOT mean that this is fair for new grads... just that it is logical.

I strongly advise you not to exhibit any behavior that could be described as "entitled".. which is an absolute deal-breaker these days. Hiring managers are looking for staff who will fit in without a lot of fuss and not expect special treatment or extra attention. Actions such as ignoring the normal employment processes by trying to go around HR & meet directly with a hiring manager or dropping the name of someone of influence (e.g., Dad's friend the hospital board member) will give that impression.

It's very discouraging, but please try not to take it personally when you are rejected. It's not that you aren't good enough - but that someone else happens to be more qualified than all the other applicants. I hope things turn around for you very soon.

I do not think going around HR is a bad thing. Let's face it, sometimes it's not what you know but who you know. Sure you don't want to go in somewhere acting like you are the best thing since sliced bread but I think networking will get you farther then just simply applying online.

Hi all! Can anyone help me decide what to do now?
Im a May graduate who recently passed NCLEX-RN. I have a friend who has been working on a med/surg floor at a large local hospital for a year. She said that her unit is hiring 2-3 nurses and told me to apply for the position on the hospital website. So, I filled out the online application, and my friend talked to her unit manager, and the manager wanted me to go through the online process, which i did, and contact the recruiter first. So my friend gave me a nurse recruiters number so that I could call her to say that I was referred by my friend and am interested in obtaining the job on the unit. Therefore, I was going to call tomorrow at lunch and was going to leave a message, but I just received an email from the hospitals recruitment team that Im no longer under consideration. Arggggggg. So I checked the website, and my status changed from in process to no longer under consideration.
So, this is the situation Im in. The job description says that they are considering new grads, and I think I meet the minimum/basic requirements they want.
What should I do now? Should I just give up on this job position and start searching for others? Or should I email or call the nurse recruiter asking the reason why they were not interested in me? My friend suggested me that I contact the nurse recruiter anyway because she believes that i need some connection and get through to person in person to get a job. She also doesn't understand how recruiters, who do the online screening, determine that someone is not qualified since the recruiters have tons and tons of applicants for one job opening.
Im feeling so sad thinking that I should have called the recruiter earlier so that she wouldnt look past my application and that I could tell her that I was referred by the current employee on the unit, but now Ive even lost this chance to talk or leave a message to her. Ah Can anybody help me decide what to do now?

Oh and nurse Hailey, you need to just call and talk to the Recruiter and see what he/she says. I would work any and all angles. It shows you are motivated. It could be that they aren't going to hire you right now because they want someone with experience but at least you reached out and maybe the recruiter will recognize your name for a new grad. Job that you apply for a few weeks from now.

Yes Call!! :up: It might have been a glitch in the system or any other petty reason. Don't live with regret. :no: You can learn so much from the recruiter. You should take advantage of all your opportunities. The most they can tell you is no.

I called, but she didn't answer the phone, so i just left a message saying that i'm a new grad and was given this number to call from my friend and the unit manager, noticed the status change on the web, and wanted to find out the reason for that.

Was it inappropriate that i asked her the reason for the status change? :***:

Also, I said that i would send her a copy of my resume and cover letter by email.

This was done on Friday in the afternoon, and if she doesn't reply to my email or call me back in next few weeks, is it okay to call her one more time? or is it too annoying?

How long does it ususally take for a recruiter to call an applicant back?

Help! Don't know what to say if i'm allowed to call one more time... argggg
