  1. I had an interview with a home care company a few weeks back. The only questions I was asked was if I passed boards and then they went down a list of skills and asked if I had any experience with those skills. That was it.
  2. What do you think about new grads starting in home health?
  3. Thank you for your response. I figure it would be a good experience if they have a good training program.
  4. I would go online and put applications in to every job you see that you are " qualified" for. Some postings say this preferred or that preferred even though I think they mean required but oh well get your info. out there in the hands of as many people you can. Talk to your teachers, they may have leads or can put a good word in for you. Do not limit yourself to hospitals. Call LTC in the area and see if they have anything available. If they don't give them your info. anyway. I have been sending our resumes and what not since June. I have an interview scheduled for Monday and it's my first one. Things are tough here in Phil. Like they are in NY. I just keep sending my stuff in! Everywhere.
  5. I worked in home health in the past in the office side of the business. The company I worked for did not hire new grads, a policy for the safety of the patients. In hospitals/ltc l you have people to help you all around and home care you have a phone. I see many new grads starting off in home care and I have an interview with a company on Monday but I'm having mixed thought about the opportunity. Who started in home care and what was your experience?
  6. Thank you for this. I too have a BS in a health related field non the less and no one gives a gosh darn. Kinda drives me a little nuts but what can I do. I too got an ADN. I was living in a rural area and that is what they offered and I had already spent do much $ on my first degree. Now I am living in a city and can't find a job. Pretty sure if I had a BSN I would have better luck. I plan to go back and get my masters which miraculously with the RN and a health related BS I can go get a MSN?? Maybe I'm missing something but it seems that the whole thing should be reevaluated. Do not allow these programs of no one wants to hire us.
  7. Actually they do put objectives on resumes, even today. A contact of mine who just got a job where there are none sent me his resume and there it was. I about died because I too think duh my objective is to gain experience in nursing. He also had his clinical experiences listed which again I wouldn't think was necessary.
  8. Oh and nurse Hailey, you need to just call and talk to the Recruiter and see what he/she says. I would work any and all angles. It shows you are motivated. It could be that they aren't going to hire you right now because they want someone with experience but at least you reached out and maybe the recruiter will recognize your name for a new grad. Job that you apply for a few weeks from now.
  9. I do not think going around HR is a bad thing. Let's face it, sometimes it's not what you know but who you know. Sure you don't want to go in somewhere acting like you are the best thing since sliced bread but I think networking will get you farther then just simply applying online.
  10. Good to hear! Let us know how it goes.
  11. Wow. I think it's so crazy that you would be outbid the running with a month or so of home care. Maybe you can speak with someone in charge of the residency program and work something out. Wouldn't hurt to ask. I would hate It of you gave up a good job and then didn't get picked. I'm sorry, I'm sure this is frustrating for you.
  12. Hey, not fair. I don't have one job
  13. I would say go to the interview. Until you are at the clinic working or have signed something stating that you indeed have the clinic job, you don't have the job. That's just how I look at it. Then if the ER offers you the position, well then that's another thing. You have to do what's right for you and your career. Of course you don't want to burn any bridges but you are the only one looking out for you in this situation. Just my thoughts. Congrats getting some offers/interviews. Send those vibes my way!!
  14. I am no expert but the volunteer work will look awesome on the resume. Play that up, I wouldn't go get a job at the GAP or anything unless you need the money.
