New grad and moving?

I am in school now in Florida and plan on attending nursing school here. But after I graduate I want to move out of state. How should I go about this? I mean with taking the nclex and getting a license? Also getting a job as a new grad in a different state? Any advice?

If you have definite state that you are moving to after graduation then, apply for "license by exam" in the state that you are moving to. Once you pass NCLEX (you can take NCLEX in your current state), you have a license in that state. If you do not have a specific state that you plan on moving to then, apply for "license by exam" in your current state. Once you pass NCLEX and get a license in that state, you can then apply for "License by Endorsement" in the state that you decide to move to.

Keep in mind that organizations are not likely to take you very seriously unless you have a license in that state & are "good to go" for employment if they have a lot of new grad applications from local candidates.

I would also caution you not to underestimate the negative impact of moving away from your support system. If possible, try to relocate to an area where you already have friends &/or family nearby ... it will be much less stressful.

In my situation, I went to school in IL and applied for the state of FL as my designated state. Apparently, some units overlooked my resume because I had an out of state address. I was lucky to have 2 units call and ask when I would get to FL.

After I arrived to FL and changed my address, a couple of floors have called for interviews.

You can pick your designation but it might be difficult to find a job if you are not local. Also, with no support could make things stressful on you as well.

QFT. It's harder moving away from everyone you know than you think. The actual moving part is exciting - finding a new place to live, moving in the furniture, knowing that you scored that dream job...

Then you go in for orientation, and you don't know anyone, and you don't have anyone to come home to and talk to about how you don't know anyone. Most of the other new grads know each other because they all went to school together. It really is like being a total outsider the first few weeks, at least, but it's doable if you are really dedicated to making it work.

I applied well before a had a license or an address in that state, well before I graduated nursing school, and I still found a job out of state just fine.

We want to leave Florida because of the school system. I want better for my children. Just my opinion.... thanks for your answer. I wasn't sure if I could pick the state when I took the nclex.

I am already moved away from friends and family. In my situation it was not that hard. I'm not worried about that.... I have a husband and 3 yr old and they are my life... and we were thinking of going up north. To Minnesota. He has family up there that I am close with also. So we would be moving with support too.

Yeah, you just pick the state that you want. You can also take the exam anywhere nationwide. For example, I took my NCLEX in Iowa but picked FL as my state.

Hi i am almost done with my last stretch for BSN degree here in the Philippines and i am considering opting out of NLE, since i am a US citizen, i would like to just go straight for the Nclex....my biggest dilemna is getting detailed procedure as to what i need to qualify to sit for nclex.....i understand that it varies per state.

For CA and NV, are my cases needed to be alligned with theory and do i need to take english exam even if the medium of instruction used is English?

Does it also apply for Texas?

Can i apply to those states simultaneously?

It is totally doable. I am in NC and I knew I didn't want to be here with my career. I applied in many compact states and got some calls. Yes, most were skeptical. However, I just kept applying and my first choice worked out. I got the job and will be graduating in 2 weeks. Don't be discouraged. You can do anything you put your mind to. I think they see initiative and dedication when u are from out of state and go through the whole application process. Keep your head up it can be done.
