so it seems like working in New Zealand as a nurse is much lower pay and lower standard of living than being a nurse in Australia or Canada.

So why would you (in my case) immigrate to New Zealand to study nursing there, get in debt, and work there oppose to doing so in Australia?

I love the weather, environment, and the idea of living in New Zealand but I am having second thoughts about it, realizing that I may be living in a poor standard of living trying to make it as a nurse and pay off school debt... Would I be better of immigrating to Australia and try to be a nurse there?

I love nursing and I wouldn't mind getting paid less to do so... but I am in dire need of money so I have to look at the financial aspect :(

plus what are my chances of getting hired after graduating from a NZ university in nursing and getting a job right away? Or getting a visa change from international student to working visa... is it fairly easy? possibly easier than Australia or Canada?

I don't know anything about visas but I've worked with many kiwis whose qualifications were accepted without issue and their education was great. About half of them did their grad years with us, so that wasn't a problem either, but they were NZ citizens & Aus/NZ have reciprocity, which wouldn't be the case for a non-citizen.

NZ is beautiful. The pay may be lower but so's the cost of living. Maybe it would be easier to pay off NZ-incurred student laons by working in Aus?

but how hard is it to work in Australia when u just graduated from NZ nursing school? I would have to reapply to Australia for immigration papers all over no?

I think the OP needs to decide what to do with their life. Over in the Cdn. forum they are asking how to transfer their US education to a Cdn. uni.

Or are they just planning a blanket application to all the Commonwealth nations?

well... I am in a sticky situation.

I am in nursing program in a local community college in California. However, my parents brought me here (California) illegally from South Korea when I was 11 years old. This means I can graduate with a Associates in Science in nursing and pass the NCLEX but will not receive a license...

I love nursing and want to pursue it in other English speaking countries as a back up... Unless this law called "Dream Act" passes I cannot be legalized in the U.S. While I can make 47dollar an hour as a nurse here in California, I will have to start all over in a different English speaking country.

So obviously I am starting to look into Canada, Australia, and New Zealand as options.

But money will be an issue since i will have to get my self into debt (student loan) to go to school and study nursing all over again.

New Zeal and would be top option... just because I love outdoors and sports and the beauty of the island... but if the salary is too low and I can't pay back the student loan... and live a low quality of life, I dunno if that's worth it. I still need money to enjoy and pursue sports, recreation, etc.

So you know you are illegal and are still staying and getting a student loan? Are you nuts?

You need to sort out your situation quickly and what papers do you have? Without a valid passport you cannot even travel!

nuts? I grew up here, are you kidding me? I can't go back to Korea, my education is not compatible, I can't write Korean, I grew up in the states since I was sixth grade...

I have valid passport from Korea, I would have to go back to Korea then immigrate to a different country. There are about a million students like my self who grew up here and because of their parents are considered "illegal." There is currently a law in the congress that can legalize students like my self but it's still in progress, up for vote next year.

Student loan... I would get from Korea or from New Zealand... if that's possible... with a family cosigner.

Look I get it, I am in a pretty crappy situation, but I didn't have any choice, it's not exactly the situation I have dreamed of.

No I'm not kidding, the authorities don't care if it was your parents fault or not, you are illegal, you even know it, you need to talk to a good lawyer immediatly, if they catch you, your are not allowed back for many years to come. Better sort that out and leave voluntary.

Uhm, since you're not a refugee you would have to apply to migrate to Canada (and probably Oz and NZ) from Korea.

The people you should be venting your frustrations on are YOUR PARENTS.

um... yes obviously I would have to apply from Korea... I know that. Yes, parent's fault I know.

Authorities... I know lol. Maybe you don't know anything about how it works in the U.S.... we have illegal immigrants in front of home depot hanging around looking for jobs. We have 10 million illegal immigrants in the U.S., huge problem... congress is trying to pass immigration reform for that very purpose. I know the consequence, the 10 year ban, etc much better than you do bro. Leaving now versus getting deported doesn't make any difference.

BTW i can legally go to school here in the states because I grew up here....

anyway, can we not talk about my status? I simply stated that to paint you a picture of why I need to immigrate to a different country as an international student. I need to know if after graduation, immigrating to another country as a nursing student is a realistic possibility...

I would second the suggestion to see an immigration lawyer - if you leave the US, you know you will be subject to a 10yr ban so will not be able to visit your family, right?

leaving now versus getting deported doesn't make any difference.

idoes make a huge difference, in case you get deported you are stamped as a criminal what will affect your ability to immigrate into another country

btw i can legally go to school here in the states because i grew up here....

not sure if this goes beyond highschool? you are an adult now and you are not born in the us what makes your case slightly different.

your status is part of the problem, so really no way around it.

see a lawyer and find out what your options are.
