If we had a conservative nurses forum

Nurses Activism

Published

Would anyone post in it? :clown:

I looked forward to being a nurse for so long....my second thoughts aren't because of nurses eating their own (I have never seen that!) or hours or mean docs (haven't seen that either)... it is because the only conservatives I have met are my fellow military vets.

The vast majority of nurses I have met (or been attacked by) have been liberals who treat me like I am insane because I am a conservative! Wow!

So....out of curiousity, how many conservatives are on this board???

I was a Republican when I was younger (am 67 now) but today's Republicans embarrass me and I think Obama is so out of his league.

We've lost the moderate shadings in both groups. Aristotle's Golden Mean is my truth but don't see it used anymore....since we are becoming more stupid with each generation:).

All of my siblings are politically conservative. My Father now considers himself an independent although I don't really think he votes much for democrats or independents. My brother now is a libertarian and my sister still calls herself a republican.

I think there are many many political moderates around although the hyperpartisan media does not exactly celebrate that notion. It seems that the political agenda is to divide the electorate and encourage great animosity as a means to continue the status quo (increasing the wealth of the governing classes while building the wealth of the upper classes and corporations) as played out daily in our media.

Good day:

"as a means to continue the status quo (increasing the wealth of the governing classes while building the wealth of the upper classes and corporations)"

Something I can actually smile and agree.

Thank you.

I am more left leaning, but do have some views that aren't popular when it comes to certain things. Most of my close coworkers (that happen to be friends) know my beliefs because of other charities/organizations I volunteer with, work for, & donate to. The rest do not. None of my beliefs have anything to do with my job and the care I provide my patients. I do my best to work well with everyone.

I'm a Libertarian. If Libertarians came into power, I'd have to find a new party. ANYONE who can get elected beyond dog catcher is bought and paid for. I weary of the political bickering; its a diversion from what is really going on in the world. I have NO problem with charities for all causes. If some young kid wants to have a gazillion kid by 1000+ different fathers, no problemo. BUT, don't take my money/taxes to do it. If YOU want to donate, go for it... JUST DON'T TAKE MY STUFF. You want 150,000 illegal aliens to get medical care/Medicaid, free phones, section 8 housing, food stamps? No problemo! Donate everything YOU own, sell YOUR house, GIVE until you bleed from your eyelashes! BUT, don't take MY stuff to pay for it. "Entitlement" programs? Who the HECK made that up? WHY MUST I GIVER UP MY MONEY THAT I WORK FOR AND HAVE IT GIVEN TO OTHERS, especially when they make bad choices after bad choices?

That's a libertarian stance and those who agree with it do, I believe, take exception to current the GOP agenda which definitely meddles in personal affairs.

I absolutely despise labels. Shockingly, I have both liberal and conservative views, depending on the subject. In some subjects, I may not have actually decided what i believe, because i agree with points on both sides. I like to read both sides and never assume I alone know what's best for everyone. (Though I do have strong opinions. But that's just it, they are opinions.) I like debates, but anyone who resorts to insults in trying to prove their point to me will lose both my interest and respect.

Not shocking at all. I personally believe that the most reasonable people are the ones who can see both sides of an issue (ok, not ALL issues, but for the most part, are open to hearing both sides). The people who I believe are most reasonable, rational, and "smartest" when it comes to politics have paid attention to what BOTH sides (or ALL sides, when it's a biggie!) have said and form an opinion afterward.

People who claim a complete slate of conservative, liberal, etc typically are people not interested in even HEARING what the other guy has to say. No point in muddling the picture with facts....they have their opinions already, thank you. ;)

I form strong opinions, no doubt (anyone reading my posts on this board for more than a day can figure that out, LOL!). But they are formed after I have heard the argument AGAINST what I think is my position....and have considered it.....and still believe in my position. Or change it, as it seems appropriate.

Some people's idea of a debate means yelling louder than the other guy until he gives up and you 'win' ;)

I can actually relate to you in that I'm surrounded by people who don't share my views on a daily basis. As a liberal now living in the South, I am surrounded by conservative nurses where I work & am subjected to their right-of-center opinions routinely. I find what they have to say baffling & frustrating at times. Unlike you, I have not been attacked by them because I do not participate in the conversation...it's not worth it. What I'm trying to say, in summary, is vote for Hillary in 2016!
