Nurses Recovery

Hi Friends. I am in recovery and will have 2 years of abstinence from food addiction on March 29th.:yeah: At age 52-53 I lost 125 pounds. I have kept it off for one year. Thank you Food Addicts Anonymous for giving me the food plan that finally took away my non-stop and uncontrollable food urges. Thank you Overeaters Anonymous for the love and support at meetings with other food addicts like myself. Thank you allnurses.com for allowing me to talk about my life long struggle with food addiction and the wonderful support of my online nurse friends. I am so grateful for every day of being abstinent from this deadly food addiction that use to totally control my life.;) I pray that my story will help others to recover too. Please don't ever give up!!!! I know at age 50 I was totally humiliated and I use to tell myself "For crying out loud, Why don't you just accept the fact that you are always going to be fat and miserable. You're too old to change now." NOT TRUE!!!

Recovery truly can come at any age.

hip hip hip hurrah

people like you give me encouragement

i hope that i will be able to make a similiar post someday

I know this is an old thread..but I am a compulsive eater and was wanting to connect with peers sharing the same struggle. Would anyone recommend OA? I found some nearby meetings but I'm not sure I can muster the courage...

I wonder how anyone can be "abstinent" from food? lol, congrats though.

Yeah..food addiction is different from other addictions because we have to consume our poison everyday. I'm not saying it's easier or harder than other addictions, but that is a unique aspect of it. If anyone has advice, support, or can relate please share. Thanks in advance.

Thanks all. Yes, my name is still blackcat and yes I am still a food addict. In fact, I have to get ready in a few minutes to go to my local OA meeting this morning. I would definately recommend OA for compulsive overeaters/food addicts. It is a really wonderful place to go to get support and help. You will find nice, caring people at these meetings. So don't be afraid to go and make some new friends too!!!!;)
