Visa Screen Certificate is required by all foreign nurses wishing to obtain a green card to work in the US, as well as any type of temporary work permit, such as the Nafta TN Visa for those from Canada and Mexico.

It requires that you pass either the NCLEX-RN or the CGFNS exam, as well as the series of English exams if you are not exempt from them.

The CGFNS exam is only required now in about five states, and rumor is that one or two will be removed from that remaining list as well. Do not bother with that exam if you are not going to work in a state that does not require it, or you have no way to be able to take the NCLEX exam from where you are currently located.

The application for the VSC is now only good for one year.........please do not apply for it until you have passed at least one of the required exams, or you may need to pay an additional fee.

Hi Silverdragon! Greetings!

I have a question about my visascreen. I have submitted all my papers, and have requested BRN - CA to submit my NCLEX results to CGFNS by mail with the $60 enclosed. I called BRN then they said that they have sent my results last August but until now when I update my file for my visascreen application, everything is ok except for the NCLEX - waiting for passing test results when I already passed August 1 of this year. When I call CGFNS they just tell me that what I see on their website with regards to my status is also what they see...... so they cannot give me any other information. It is frustrating, but should I send another request to the BRN?

It has been three months, how did you send it? Do you have proof that they ever received it? How did you pay for it? If with a money order or back draft, suggest that you contact the place where you got it and see if it was ever cashed. Then you can go from there. If never cashed, then you can get a refund and do it again, but use something where it can be tracked.

Thanks for the reply, I truly appreciate it. I sent the request through US Postal mail, and I paid through money order from the same postal office. They did give me a tracking number, only I never checked it. I just called the BRN if they received it. The person that I talked with confirmed that they did indeed receive said request and sent it to CGFNS August 15. I just kept following up with the CGFNS, they just gave me the same reply, still waiting for the NCLEX results. I also received the same response through the mail. Now Im thinking I probably have to do it again! :) Anyway, I would just like to thank everybody here at allnurses, you have all been a big help in helping me pass the NCLEX! I did self study, finished at 75q, and I hope you don't mind me still asking for your help every now and then.

So you know that the lettre arrived at the BRN, but remember that they are going to send out a letter to CGFNS, that now is where the issue comes up.

If CGFNS never recevied it in this length of time, ask the BRN to send it again. But you should not need to pay for anything, it was not lost by you.

I attended a nursing school in the Philippines and an RN there. Currently, I am in US and taken my NCLEX here and passed it, too. I am now applying for Visa Screen Certificate from CGFNS and they are requiring me to ask the BON here in US for licensure validation and validation of my licensure in the Philippines. My questions is is it okay not to declare my licensure in the Philippines so I can save time from waiting for it? Because I think I will wait 2 weeks before the PRC (agency who is taking care of this matter) can send it to CGFNS.

I already asked my state BON in US to submit my license validation and CGFNS asked me to explain why I don't have license in my home country.

Tell me if it is okay not to mention about my licensure in the Phils.

And what would be a good reason to tell them via letter.

We have seen a few state that CGFNS have asked for a license for VSC. If you have it then you have to get it validated and sent to them. With retrogression you have plenty of time

i applied for CES before and never declared it. and never mentioned that I passed the NLE. Dont you think it's okay?

You should be as factual as possible, that is the way you practice nursing, so the same should apply when applying to be a nurse. My opinion is why take short cuts that come back to haunt you.

It will depend on the state to whether you need local license or not but if CGFNS are requesting verification and you have local license then you need to get it sorted.

They want verification directly from the PRC, it is never accepted from you.

Omitting the fact that you have written the exam there and are just waiting the license to be issued would be considered submitted false information and could have everything denied for you right from the start, including everything. When you submit anything, there is a statement at the very end of it that states what you are submitting is true to the best of your knowledge. Leaving off an important piece of information like that is the same as withholding and not looked upon favorably.

There is no good reason, you are going to have to do as they have requested and follow our rules here if you wish to work here.

No, I do not think that it is okay, what you have done already is grounds not to get the VSC issued if you submitted the application for the CES after you had taken and passed the NLE.

This is most definitely not what we wish to see done, nor does CGFNS, nor any BON.

You are also not an RN there if you have not received your license from the PRC. Same way that one is not considered a US RN if a license has not been issued to them.

Not sure what the rush is for the VSC, we do not have visas available for you to adjust to. If you are needing the VSC, that tells me that you are not here on a green card already. There is no way for you to remain here to work.

Having a license and a VSC does not give one permission to work in the US. You also need to take and pass the English exams to get the VSC.

Please be aware that if CGFNS starts to put two and two together and the dates do not make sense, then you may not even qualify for the VCS right from the beginning.

Anytime that one makes false statements on anything that was submitted to them, you set yourself up for a very big problem and one that is not going to go away for you.

This is something that you should have thought of before you started submitting legal documentation to any agency here. And also what US federal government will pay close attention to when they review your records.

I had written to you first back in Feb08 about applications to work/exams etc for a Canadian RN to work in Florida.

Well, All paper work is at CGFNS, passed my NCLEX back in Nov. received

my letter from BON Florida stating they will not issue a license until I have a Social Security Number.

Called CGFNS if they received my results from Florida BON, and they said NO.

I called BON and they said "did you mail the $25.00 that is required for us to mail the results to CGFNS". I did not know that there was a further charge for this!!!

So it has been a month with nothing done. Then they would not take my Visa number over the phone, they wanted a money order,,,which will take time thru the mail at this holiday time of year.

Sorry I am so lengthy, but after all this time, you think you are coming to an end,,,but there is always something else to think about or do.

So now,,,how do you go about getting a Social Security Number, so that I can receive my License in my hand....that I worked so hard for.

Any words of wisdom,,,for someone who is getting frustrated, as my application with CGFNS is up in March 09
