Visa Screen Certificate / CGFNS

Published

Visa Screen Certificate is required by all foreign nurses wishing to obtain a green card to work in the US, as well as any type of temporary work permit, such as the Nafta TN Visa for those from Canada and Mexico.

It requires that you pass either the NCLEX-RN or the CGFNS exam, as well as the series of English exams if you are not exempt from them.

The CGFNS exam is only required now in about five states, and rumor is that one or two will be removed from that remaining list as well. Do not bother with that exam if you are not going to work in a state that does not require it, or you have no way to be able to take the NCLEX exam from where you are currently located.

The application for the VSC is now only good for one year.........please do not apply for it until you have passed at least one of the required exams, or you may need to pay an additional fee.

(This thread is replacing the original thread that was from more than 2 and 1/2 years ago, and has updated information.)

may i know the reason why you advise taking the ielts first before registering at cgfns for the vsc? im thinking of applying for the vsc first so that when i register for the ielts exam, i can readily indicate in the form that they need to forward the results to cgfns. wouldnt that be faster and more convenient? or would this be more problematic than helpful?

btw im just curious...you're only 22 and here from ph, are you currently employed?

having both before registering at cgfns for vsc will be more practical and faster rather than filing ahead without the ielts since they need both of it before they start reviewing your account and if you lock either of the two required you wil be put on hold or pending. you can still indicate it on your ielts on which institution you want your result be forwarded.

yes im only 22 and im done with all the exams but need to wait long period of time before my pd becomes current. currently i just finished my 6 months volunter experience at the same time waiting for the call of the hospital i applied.

ok, got it! thanks!

Err..guys? just a few more questions about the application J

Item 14: pre-professional education.

What do i put under Name of Diploma or Degree Certificate in its Original Language?” I know this is a simple question but i’m really not sure coz i’m thinking the name should go something like “High School Graduate” but then you mentioned it should that isn’t exactly what’s written on the diploma...It reads, “pinatutunayan nito na si ____ ay nakatapos ng Kurso sa sekondarya na itinakda para sa mataas na paaralan ng Kagawaran ng Edukasyon ay pinagkalooban nitong Katibayan(the last word in bold letters) Translation: “This satisfies that ___ having satisfactorily completed the secondary course prescribed for the High School by the Department of education, is awarded this Diploma (this last word in bold letters)” Should i put “katibayan,” since it requires the name using the vernacular? Awww, forgive me for this seemingly stupid question but this is the only way to get rid of the anxiety... I just really really want to be sure. :D

Do I sign my full name in script, or just use my normal signature, which happens to be just my 4 letter initials...

Super thanks again for the patience and all the help!

I am currently processing my visascreen requirements. I plan to work in Nevada, passed the NCLEX and IELTS. One of the questions in vsascreen form (12) is what U.S visa I plan to obtain (H1B, H1C, 212r, Tn, Green card). I admit I am 'newbie' with regards to immigration stuffs. Dont know the difference and what to choose. And can I ask my school and the license authority to just let me be the one to mail the requirements all at once to CGFNS? It will be a save of mailing cost and time. Can you help me on this matter? Thank you.:nurse:

A legal signature for a document is never just four letters as a start. You need to be using what you have posted in your passport and what you used on every single other document that was submitted. They all need to match.

You put exactly what was written there as well as an exact translation, that is what was asked for and if you make even one change, it can delay things for months.

You will be entering the US under the permanent resident status, so that would be the green card.

You can submit everything in a courier envelope provided that all are in their own sealed envelopes. But if I remember correctly, you went thru the CES process for the BON in order to be able to write the NCLEX exam in the first place. If you did this, then you do not have to submit anything else unless some things have changed; they can use what they already have, you would just need to submit the actual application to them.

Yes, I had my CES done by the BON but I think I will repeat the same process all over again. Because it reads here in the vsascreen form that I have to submit some school credentials and license certificate confirmation.

Can I ask for more questions? Is it better to just choose the online application for visascreen?

If you did the CES, they are able to use the same documents that were submitted to them. You only need to send them in if you have never used their services before. The CES was done by CGFNS, it is never done by the state; this is name used only by CGFNS for one of their products that they have. If you have used any of their services already, then you do not need to resubmit documents as they have the same user id# assigned to them.

If you look more at their website, you will find it in writing about this.

Stay away from the on-line application, just as I have stated over and over again all over the place. One mistake in it and you can have all types of problems.

But if you can make sure that you will check and recheck everything over and over before hitting the send button then you should be okay since you do not need to send in anything else to them.

Happy Thanksgiving Day!

I would to ask regarding my CFGNS visascreen application. My employer processed my cgfns visascreen application online December 7, 2007. Cgfns received all the documents from my license verifications (local and passing nclex), school documents, and ielts, except that my employer still has not fully paid cgfns to review my papers.

I have been insistent and reminded my employer regarding payment, and he promised that he will pay for it. I would like to ask if there is an expiration on my papers? since I still got A WEEK before my application turns one year. Will I get to resubmit all my cgfns requirements again?

Please help. Thank you.

Welcome

CGFNS has a 12 month rule and if not paid/completed then have to apply again, I can't understand why your employer hasn't paid, may want to consider doing it yourself

Hi Silverdragon! Greetings!

I have a question about my visascreen. I have submitted all my papers, and have requested BRN - CA to submit my NCLEX results to CGFNS by mail with the $60 enclosed. I called BRN then they said that they have sent my results last August but until now when I update my file for my visascreen application, everything is ok except for the NCLEX - waiting for passing test results when I already passed August 1 of this year. When I call CGFNS they just tell me that what I see on their website with regards to my status is also what they see...... so they cannot give me any other information. It is frustrating, but should I send another request to the BRN?

Thank you in advance and have a good day!

If they never paid the fee, then not one thing has been done with it. Suspect that the file does not exist any longer by this time at all. The application is good for one year, but they only have to go by that if they have received payment along with the application. A year later and no oe is going to be holding onto anything. Remember that until payment is made for services, there is no contract between CGFNS and the applicant so they are not required to keep things for a year.

If your employer never did anything in a year, what else have they not done? Personally, I would tell you to look for another employer since this one is not interested in paying for services so that means that they do not think that you are going to get to the US for a very long time.

This is another reason why one should always be doing their own processing and not relying on an agency. For one thing, the VSC is going to belong to them, not you. Unless you pay for it, then you have no control over it and what if you decide to move on to a different employer? You are in a pickle as they would have submitted something to CGFNS that all of their documentation must be sent to the agency and not you and you will not be able to get it without paying the fees for it as wel as huge cancellation fees many times to these agencies.

Bad place to be in especially with what is happening now.
