NCLEX application and state board

Hello everyone,

I was wondering if anyone had experience or advice on which state board of nursing to apply to in order to write the NCLEX. I am a Canadian registered nurse planning to move to the states in the next few years. My husband is American and I have been going through the immigration process through family. I would like to write my NCLEX prior to immigrating to the states. Hopefully this summer when we visit.

Any recommendations on which state board to apply to where I do not need a social security number and preferably no fingerprinting either in order to write the NCLEX. I realize I will have to do this when I undergo licensing when we move.

I am currently nursing in the Middle East, so finding somewhere to get fingerprinting done is a bit of a headache.

Your advice is so appreciated. Thanks in advance

Most states will require fingerprints as part of the application

You can do Arizona or Texas BON. They don't require SSN and with regards to fingerprinting, I managed to do it in our local police department (I came from UK and did my fingerprinting in Surrey Police HQ).

There are a few U.S. States that don't require SSN during application. One of them is New Mexico, and the other one is Illinois. However, you mentioned about fingerprinting. Most of them (I think all of them) require fingerprinting. You mentioned that you're in the Middle East. If your gut is telling you to really apply NCLEX, then you'll have to find a way to get that fingerprinting as one of the requirements. Good luck.

Im a USRN in Illinois but currently residing in the Philippines. Still waiting for my visa. Anyways, i would Suggest choose a state that wouldn't require SSN and TOEFL. Texas is good but they require at least 2 years of experience. Better choose from NMI or Illinois. When it comes to review, I guess self study can be done. Purchasing good references is good and some of those references offer online courses as well. Hope this helped you.

I chose Colorado and my fingerprints were done at the test center just minutes before the test. I took the NCLEX in London.
