Endorsing license to California

I have a question! Since my license is from New Mexico. I wanna endorse it in California. But the thing is I graduated in the Philippines. Is it true that the new policy of CA board of nursing is that they require you to study again? (Particularly Med. Surg 1&2). So even though I'm possessing an active RN license in a different state I still need to study and take the nclex-rn again?

There are many threads addressing the difficulties encountered by graduates of nursing schools in the Philippines when it comes to getting licensed in California. The reason is that majority if not all of the nursing programs in the Philippines have allowed students to complete OR, delivery room, and nursery cases outside of the semester when Med-Surg, and Maternal-Child Nursing courses were covered in lectures.

Per California Board of Registered Nursing regulations, nursing programs should offer nursing content in the classroom and in the clinical setting concurrently. If your program allowed you to complete your OR, delivery room, and nursery cases after you've already had your Med-Surg and Maternal-Child Nursing year, you may be in trouble and it doesn't matter whether you've gotten a license in another state in the US.

It's not that you will need to study for the whole BSN again. You will be required to repeat Med-Surg and OB, the courses that are affected by this "concurrency" issue before you will be allowed to endorse. If you still want to pursue this avenue, it is not wrong to apply and see what happens. You will obviously not get a refund of your application fee even if you get denied. Good luck.

You don't need to take the NCLEX-RN again since you are endorsing a license from another state. Look around the threads that address this issue here. I think the biggest obstacle is actually finding a school that would only let you register for Med-Surg and OB. If I'm not mistaken, the school has to be approved by the California Board of Registered Nursing.

In my state there are no refunds if something happens with the licensing...I would look into that. Even so, you're going anyway and perhaps they will apply it to a future endorsed license after you take the courses; I would look into it and make arrangements with them about that. Find out the CEs you need for CA and get those out of the way as well.

I have a question my professor in my nursing review told me that I can apply in a government hospital in California even though I don't have a ca license, as long as you have an active nursing license from a different state. But chances of getting hired are low. How true is this? Thanks

Federal facilities you can work with any US state license. Are you a citizen? Some of the jobs require citizenship. It's a lengthy application process and highly competitive. It can take 6+ months for an application to be even reviewed. Quite a few require paid US nursing experience. You can look at usajobs.gov to see the current postings

Many of the federal hospitals are military or veterans hospitals. The other federal facilities are federal prisons.

Yes. I was born here in California. That's pretty long. Can I volunteer as a registered nurse though for the mean time?

Not without an active license. Very few opportunities for licensed healthcare professionals to volunteer. Do you have paid work experience? You can try a public health clinic but again you must have an active local RN license
