Hi all,

I was just wondering if I could apply to two different states to start the process for initial RN licence.I haven't read anywhere out I chilled or can't. Just really confused. Your comments address greatly appreciated.

yes but dont make sense coz itz just additional expense after all y can just endorse ur license if u passed one of the states u intend to take

Why would you apply to two at once?

I wanted to do that so that I have licences for 2 states. I plan on traveling but want to keep licence in my home state. I wasn't sure that if I endorse, will I have to give up my home state licence if I travel our can you keep licences for 2 states?

When take the NCLEX the results are sent to a single state. After you receive your initial license you can apply for, and lold licensure in as many stares as you want. When you apply for licensure by endorsement, what happens to your original license depends on which state issued it and whether or not it grants you multi-state priviliges.

If your original license was issued by a non-compact state, it remains active and you are issued a second license by the second state.

If your original license was issued by a compact state and grants you multi-state priviliges, what happens depends upon whether you apply for licensure in a compact state or not.

If you are making a permanent move to a non-compact state, you will be issued a license to practice in your new state. When you notify the board of nursing in the first state of your new, out-of-statte address, that license will lose its multi-state priviliges and become a single state license only, but will remain active in the original state of issue.

If you are making a permanent move to another compact state you will be allowed to work for 30 days on your original license. When you apply for, and are granted a license from your new state of residence, it will be a multi state license as well. However, when your new license is issued, the board of nursing in your previous state will be notified, and they will inactivate that license as you can only maintain one license with multi-state priviliges.

Thank you for your reply. I am applying for a non compact state initially but the second licence is for a compact state. So will the board who issues the initial licence take away my licence if I apply for a licence in a compact state?

Compact multi state license only applies if you are a legal permanent resident of the compact state.

You can initially apply for a single state as you can only declare one state for the results to be issued to. Once you are issued a license you can apply for endorsement to as many other states as you choose and can afford.
