CA BRN New Requirements For NCLEX RN international students

World Registration

Published

I had already registered online in Pearson Vue but I think I'm not yet eligible to take the test. Is there an expiration date for my registration at PV?

I received a letter from CA BON requesting for new requirements such as:

  1. SS number
  2. Local license in the Philippines
  3. Copy of ur clinical rotation schedule for your cases: Assisted/Actual deliveries, cord dressing, and major/minor surgeries
  4. A complete school curriculum hundred pages or more sent directly from ur nursing school to the board. (the board doesn't accept the condensed version of the curriculum
  5. A one-page curriculum outline and academic calendar.

Fortunately, I had the first 2 requirements but I am worried that the last 3 will take time to be accomplished.

I am wondering if it's just me who have this requirement. Most of NCLEX passers I know weren't required on those listed above. It's really hard to focus on review while your thinking of this :uhoh3:

Hello there michelle, dont worry about the cabrn issue you already passed the nclex.. They will release your license as long as you apply again.. And provide the requirements Yup you have to do the same process as you did when you are applying for the exam,

Thanks melai12 so i just need to submit the clinical cases? What if my school doesnt have the copy of that anymore. I graduated 2007 so i wouldnt be surprise if they destroyed the files already. :( can i contest that? I appreciate your help :) thank you :)

If you contest the request from the CABRN they may just say too bad no license for you. The concurrency rules were on the books way before 2008

Know that once you hit the 8 year mark post NCLEX without working as a licensed nurse CABRN mandates that you repeat the NCLEX

Thank you so much.. I hope i dont reach that 8 years .. I hope i can fix it soon..

Have you worked overseas/outside the U.S.? Paid nursing experience outside the U.S. counts as its verifiable clinical nursing experience not just experience in CA

Are you certain no documentation exists?

I worked 4 years as an operating room nurse in the philippines and 1 year in saudi arabia. Im contacting the my school now..luckily i have a copy of my clinical cases but there is no signature of the clinical instructors. The one with signature was damage during the flood in the philippines. I hope to find the people who needs to sign my papers... But im worried because from what i read in the comments here.. They dont acknowledge it if its not concurrent with theories :(

If your theory, clinical and cases were not concurrent you will be referred for remedial education before you can be licensed. Passing the NCLEX is but one step in the process. It is not surprising if CABRN is now looking at concurrency for unlicensed NCLEX passer IEN candidates

I would take care securing signatures 8 years later. Does PRC maintain a copy as case completion is required for licensing in addition to passing the NLE?

I dont think the Prc is keeping that files.. I saw one comment here that she tried to go to PRC to get a copy of clinical cases but they said they destroy the files after 2 years..

I haven't seen anyone post a response from CABRN that no longer had access to their cases. There have been a few with the same scenario of late but only responded to CABRN in recent days

Hello michelle,

Did the cabrn actually ask you about your clinical case???

2 of my friends pass the RN nclex in 2009 but without ss# so they did bot release their license its hold till they provide ss

This year cabrn is allowing ITIN# to release license for those who pass nclex but still doesnt have ss#.

One of my friend got her ss# immigrant visa by petition so she applied her license to cabrn and ask her to apply using same application as where you are applying for exam. She got her license in 3 mos!

Another friend she doesnt have ss# but she has ITIN# and she applied her license using again the application for licensure by examination and she got her license in the mail in 2 mos!

According to the cabrn did not ask them about their clinical cases in the philippines..

You already did pass the nclex. Pretty sure you can get your license.

Sorry for some typo error..

Anyway, pm me for more info..

And pls send your application first to cabrn and lets see what they will ask you.

Hi melai12 i dont know how to send private message here.. Yes i received a letter fromthe CA BRN asking for my cases.. Its holiday in the philippines now so i cant contact the school yet.. Im so worried :( i dont know what am i going to do if they decline my license application because i cant go out of state because my whole family is here in California :(
