CA BRN New Requirements For NCLEX RN international students

World Registration

Published

I had already registered online in Pearson Vue but I think I'm not yet eligible to take the test. Is there an expiration date for my registration at PV?

I received a letter from CA BON requesting for new requirements such as:

  1. SS number
  2. Local license in the Philippines
  3. Copy of ur clinical rotation schedule for your cases: Assisted/Actual deliveries, cord dressing, and major/minor surgeries
  4. A complete school curriculum hundred pages or more sent directly from ur nursing school to the board. (the board doesn't accept the condensed version of the curriculum
  5. A one-page curriculum outline and academic calendar.

Fortunately, I had the first 2 requirements but I am worried that the last 3 will take time to be accomplished.

I am wondering if it's just me who have this requirement. Most of NCLEX passers I know weren't required on those listed above. It's really hard to focus on review while your thinking of this :uhoh3:

The school may have saved the copies for future preferences. I'm glad you brought up the applying for Nevada. I'm currently applying in Nevada and it'll be in a couple of weeks before I find out what CGFNS says about my transcripts. I can't say it's a hundred percent that you will get your ATT there. I know 3 who received their ATT before June. Now there are also 3 others who were denied because of concurrency issues. The later others applied the more requirements were asked fore. Requirements were Physical assessment subject and a medical surgical nursing level 2. I don't know about now. I will let you know once I get my letter from Nevada.

Here is a the list of 13 states that you may want to avoid with the concurrency issues.

Alabama

Arizona

California

Georgia

Illinois

Kansas

Louisiana

Maryland

North Dakota

Oklahoma

Vermont*Had no problem in the past but now requires SSN, License and atleast 2 years experience

Virginia

Washington

Nevada*recently started to require subjects to enroll in

Texas*Requires license and experience

Recently foreign grad applicants were successful in applying at these states:

Michigan

New York

Hawaii

I would really suggest to take actions ASAP. It was originally California to enforce these issues and now 13 other states are enforcing concurrency issues. It's a matter of time before states take actions.

I really need to make a video to spread awareness.

Before graduation all of us were required to produce three sets of PRC cases. One for the Philippine NLE, another for school records, and a set for us to keep. But I'm not quite sure if my school has included copies of my clinical cases for the sake of application. If all else fails, would it be wise to apply in Nevada instead? I'm not bringing up the thought of reciprocity here. Just merely being licensed in Nevada. Or if you don't mind, give me a list of states I could easily apply in. I chose Nevada 'cause it's the closest state to home which does not require concurrency if I'm not mistaken. Thanks!

New York sounds good. Oh, man. Nevada tagging along with this concurrency issue? Is it okay to pass my application to different states at the same time? You know, just to save such precious time. Gosh. Are you currently working while waiting for your applications?

Well it is possible. But, the problem are the fees you will be paying for each state. Each state has an application fee. I've spent 300+ for CGFNS alone and 200 for Nevada and 100+ for the English Proficiency exam. Now if you plan on applying to New York their CGFNS CVS is different from the CES. They have their own CGFNS method while most states accept CES. So that's additional fee right there.

But if you do have the money go right ahead. I wish i was working. I've applied for so many jobs and nada, very tough job market out there. Trying to be productive and study.

My mom's paying for all my application fees. But to save time, I guess I have to consult her about this. I just go crazy when I'm not being productive at all. This may sound a bit rhetorical, but if I do get an exam permit from Nevada, does that necessarily mean I have to drive up all the way to Vegas and take the exam there? Or can I do it in the testing sites here? Sorry. You're, by far, the person who's been clearing up my knowledge about taking the NCLEX.

NCLEX can be sat in any test center that issues the test. Results will go to the BON that you are sitting exam for. ie you can sit the exam in London UK and results go to NV where application was lodged.

Silverdragon is correct. You can sit anywhere for the NCLEX exam. Just as long as the result goes to the state you are applying for your license. I'll send you PM and give you my email. I can reply to you a bit faster.

my Checklist: please help me guys.

1. Method3 Equivalent Education and/or Experience.

2. record of nursing program and TOR

3. Record of conviction

4. Live scan and 150$ application fee with application form.

5. Photograph 2x2

6. Attached a copy of High School and college Diploma.

7. Proof of 54 Theory Hours of Pharmacology ??? my friend didn't pass this requirement.

8. Postcard (55A-7) what should I do with this???

Basically your school will be submitting educational background to the board of nursing which includes Record of nursing program, TOR and that's the equivalent education and experience.

Livescan can be taken at a local law enforcement department within the city you live in. Results will be sent to the board.

Photograph 2x2 this is a given. It's not that hard.

High School and College Diploma you can also figure that out. Photocopy them and send them a long with the requirments.

Theory hours - now this is the total hours you've completed within a semester of your pharmacology subject

the postcard i'm not sure about. Someone please clear this up.

I suggest your read what others are posting because there is a huge discussion on how this process takes.

thank you very much for quick reply. Am I missing something in my list? I'm using Method 3 in applying for LVN exam.

You should take a look at this topic because there are several applicants who were denied from taking the NCLEX RN and are now taking the NCLEX PN

I called WA state today and asked about requirements and concurrency and the person I talked to looked like she doesn't know about concurrency... She just said transcripts so I'm hoping they don't have it...

"only those states that have explicit education requirements of concurrent theory and practicum will philippine nurses have licensure issues.

excelsior college new york nursing graduates have had same issue recently. see
state board licensure requirements here]

these are states having concerns over concurrent theory and practicum, so i would look at other 37 states to obtain license:

alabama

arizona

california

georgia

illinois

kansas

louisiana

maryland

north dakota

oklahoma

vermont

virginia

washington
"

once upon a time there was "automatic reciprocity" for board scores above of a certain level. that has been phased out. then some states got together and agreed to "approve" each other with similar requirements being called "compact states". california is not a compact state.

the nurse licensure compact authorizes licensed practical nurses and registered nurses licensed and residing in a compact state to practice in other compact states without the necessity of obtaining an additional license. the nurse licensure compact facilitates nursing practice among the compact states by requiring the nurse to maintain a license in his/her primary state of residence which grants "multi-state privilege" to practice in other compact states. however, this privilege requires that the nurse practice according to the laws and regulations of each state in which the nurse practices or provides care (i.e., the state in which the patient is located at the time care is rendered), either physically or electronically.

california has recently increased/enforcing some new requirements for nursing licensure and it has become difficult for some new grads/nurses to obtain licensure in the state of california.....as well as the 12 other states that have concurrent clinical requirements. tis i believe is in response to some of the "newer" nursing schools that are online. this has effected foreign nurses as well.
