NC Roll Call!

  1. Ok, let's try again! Who is where? What do you do, and where do you do it? I'll start. 22, second year nursing student at Pitt Community College, and will be signing a contract with University Health Systems (Pitt Co Memorial Hospital) very soon if things work out. Working pt at a pizza place, trying to apply for as much free money as possible so I can cut back on hours and study more. Now, spill the beans! Let us know! -Andrea

    Hello,
I am Amy 21 RN and I am starting a new job in Winston Salem. I am really excited! I will be working on a renal/med/surg floor. I went to school in Wilmington so I am missing the beach! Hopefully I will meet great people and have an awesome job. Good luck with the rest of school!

I love Winston-Salem? You going to work for Baptist? HUGE, but loved the time I spent there (was in high school). I LOVE the mall! My whole paycheck would go there! Alas, I love the beach too (moved to greenville from hickory), and as much as I love Hickory, I cannot leave the beach. I have an awesome tan. Good luck! Keep us posted on how it goes. -Andrea

49 yo 2nd semester ADN student at Wake Tech in Raleigh....would LOVE to live in Wilmington

We went thru Hickory last weekend coming back from Asheville picking up grands. I was wishing we'd brought hubby's truck so I could go furniture shopping.

As if I'd have time to redecorate this summer :uhoh21:

26 year old nursing wanna be. I already have a bachelor's degree in Public Relations so I am finishing my last couple of rerequisites to apply for admission to Winson-Salem State University's Accelerated BSN program; Chapel Hill's Program and ECU's accelerated program.

WSSU is my first choice since I have heard so many great things about their accelerated program and Baptist Hospitals. Wish me luck!

Hi CNS48 - I have a quick question! You mentioned that WSSU and ECU have accelerated nursing programs. I can't see to find any information on either school's website regarding this - they only mention the tradional paths. Do you know where I can find any info on this? I already have a BS in another area, so I'm very interested in taking the accelerated route. I'm also looking into the Duke and UNC programs. Thanks!

Hi all .... 40, single dad in Asheville. Working at the VAMC on their surgical floor. Moved here from Sarasota, Florida almost a year ago and LOVE Asheville, the mountains and the awesome people here. Also a Junior Nursing Student for my BSN and MSN at University of Phoenix online. Once I finish the MSN, I am going for my FNP at Western Carolina University.

    Hello NCNurse2be,

Winston-Salem State University does not advertise their accelerated program on their website, but if you call the school of nursing (number can be found at:http://gorams.wssu.edu/sohs/nursing/nursing_main.htm), they will send you written information about the program.

As for ECU's program, it is what is called an Entry-level Master's Program for people who have a degree in another field. The name they use for their program is Alternate Entry Master's Program. It is an accelerated program, but instead of receiving a bachelor's degree you receive a Master's Degree. Here is a link to their page: http://www.nursing.ecu.edu/alternate_entry.cfm

When would you be interested in entering a program? Most of the prerequisites for each program are the same (Anatomy & Physiology I and II, Microbiology, Statistics, etc.).

Hi, 23, just graduated in May from the University of Massachusetts--Amherst with my BSN. Moved to Greenville to work at PCMH, where I start this month. Will be working on the Surgical Intermediate Unit, but did my internship in L&D back home. Should be interesting! Just moved here two weeks ago and am trying to settle in before work starts up.
