Identical quads and "nesting" question.

We had two twins that nested in the same open crib once they were older. I have to read our policy to make sure but as far as I know that is the first I have seen like that. They are so precious!

I wonder if they are nested like this just for the picture or spend a good deal of time hanging out together? I have heard of studies done with nesting twins together and it's benefits, but I know we'd never do it for infection control reasons.
Has anyone done that at their facility?

Those babies are so precious and very beautiful! I saw them on the news this morning, and just wanted to hold one so bad. Ahhh, just too cute! Their older brother who is four years old told his mom he wanted brothers, but he "thinks he'll keep them". Isn't that precious? :)

I am presently an agency nurse in Texas. I work in several different facilities. Some facilities do not cobed multiples for infection control reasons, but some do. But when it is done, it is usually done once the babies have stablized and are ready to go to Level 2 status, or are extubated breathing on their own. There have been alot to studies done on the subject.

We cobed our mulitiples...rarely in the same isolette, but once they are in cribs we do. I don't like it personally because when one wakes up the others do and then they are all screaming and carrying on...and usually one pukes on the other, etc. LOL . We started doing it when we were running out of bedspaces and at first the attendings were reluctant because of infection control, but after the issue was pushed with research articles and we made sure that all parents know that handwashing is not an option, but a requirement (we will separate them if the parents are not washing in between kids) it was okay.

I love co-bedding. THe babies usually tend to sleep better and are much more peaceful when reunited. My favorite was when we had Identical triplets. We used colored tape to color code everything.

I thought it was awesome and would demand it if (GOD FORBID) I ever had multiples of my own

We cobed all of our multiples and have done so for a few years. Infection control has not been an issue. If one of the multiples becomes sick we immediately separate them until the sick one is better. We cobed as early as possible (even when still vented) and have had alot of success. The only problem is overcrowding as they are growing, especially with triplets. We usually cobed in the new Giraffes because they are a little bigger.:)

We co-bed; we have an elaborate system to keep everything ID'd as to whom it belongs--even the babies are labeled. Since ID bracelets fall off, are cut off or outgrown, we op-site a small name label and "their" color dot to their leg. Incubators are too small, so a lot of the time, we put them on an open warmer w/ the temp probe on the smaller baby, or turn it off as they get older. We've done triplets on an open warmer.

I think it's a lot of fun, but you should see the look on people's faces when they just come through and realize there's two babies on the warmer!

We have quads coming--that ought to be interesting!!! :rolleyes:

Obstetrics is not my area, so I ask this out of curiosity are there cases of identical quads and triplets now?
