TOURO College Nursing Program

U.S.A. New York

Published

Does anyone have any information on the nusing program at Touro College in Brooklyn. I am interested in applying, but would like some information about there curriculum, admission process and tuition.

Thanks a bunch:typing

Well they only admitt students once a year. Their website is really informational, I think the first semester is somewhere around 7 grand. You have to take the NLN exam, and to be honest .. If it werent for the distance I wouldve went to that school, the staff there is VERY nice. When I went on my interview the professor was doing a 1:1 tutor session with a student she felt wasnt doing her best.

Good luck

Unfortunately, if you're interested in going to Nursing School for the fall, Touro is out of the question. Their classes start once a year as the previous poster said, in June. If you want any specific information, feel free to private message me as I'm a student and am willing to discuss the program with you.

I went to their open house a year and a half ago. It's a brand new nursing program & they only take a handful of students & they said they decide whether you are ready to take the NCLEX after you graduate. The teachers seemed really nice. But what made me leave was when I found out they were not accredidated by the state. A bunch of us just got up & left after we heard that. It's too much of a risk--for me personally. I know it's only probably because the program is brand new.

Not sure if this has changed by now.

wrong choice for u and others to get up and leave because of that... yes, they are accredited by the state. All they needed was their first class to graduate and that happened last Spring. So don't let that stop you. And besides that, going to a school that is not accredited at the time doesn't affect you while you're taking the classes. And I'm not sure what you mean by "they decide whether you are ready to take the NCLEX after you graduate." You graduate, you pass all your classes... if you want to take the NCLEX, then you take it. Of course, they'll give you their input and advice, but that decision is totally up to you. They are a new program, so of course they want their graduates to do well on the NCLEX. If they feel you are not ready, then they'll tell you maybe you should take a course to better prepare yourself. No school wants their students graduating and taking the NCLEx and failing, it looks bad on them of course!

very good point wsmith, i think the open house i went to this year they mentioned that they are affiliated with some school if you want to go further for your bsn. My memory is so shot ...I applied as a last ditch attempt just in case i didnt get into my school.

I didn't know it was a new program. I say, do like Nitingale, apply to Touro and any other school, it can't hurt. Also since it new, they want people to succeed.

I actually asked them how many people passed the NCLEX and the chairperson said everyone that graduated their program EXCEPT for ONE person they werent able to get a hold of passed the NCLEX. They said they sort of teach to the NCLEX, not that they want to, but really have no choice if they want to remain in business.

Theyre really good people, and if I didnt get into my first choice I wouldve really considered Touro.

Actually it wasn't the wrong choice for me to leave. It was the perfect choice. It wasn't worth the risk--nor did I want to be part of school where accreditation was not guaranteed. NS has alot of BS to it I don't want to have any prof telling me whether or not I am ready to take the NCLEX.

Either way I see they've worked out their kinks since I went to the open house. Good for them.

To the OP--apply to Touro and any school that you see fit. I wish you the best of luck--let us know if you get in. :yeah:

Specializes in acute care.

My sister went to Touro, the Manhattan campus and took her pre-reqs there. Unfortunately, she did not get into the nursing program.

What is even more unfortunate is that her credits aren't transferable to some other schools because at the time she took them a few short years ago, the college was not accredited. She only had luck with some CUNY schools, the other schools she has tried told her that she would have to take ALL the classes again at their school.

I would not tell anyone NOT to go there, but I surely wouldn't.

i just got my acceptance letter to Touro late last night! i just got back from Jamaica for my best friends wedding and received the letter when i got home!

I am SO happy, it's been a really hard journey getting into a nursing program in NYC as many of you know.

I will be starting at Touro College on June 23rd.

I am so happy! now comes the real hard work.
