Hey there Jasmin

Im not in nursing school yet but i do work at Memorial Sloan Kettering and they have a paid internship program for student nurses. Ive been working at msk for 3 yrs and every summer ive gotten to meet these student nurses, we call them CAPs. Definately check out msk's website, here is the link to the program

Ive gotten to talk to a couple of the student nurses and they seem to really enjoy the program, plus the nurses are really glad to have them.

From my observations, you are paired with one nurse who you shadow the whole time, they try to expose you to as much as possible.

I work at the outpatient facility and I know the nurses that the CAP's get are preceptors to the new nurses that come to the hospital and are excellent teachers plus they are really really nice.

Anyway i hope this helps or answer you questions.

long island jewish are accepting applications for the summer.I saw that on NY times job session today

Hello everyone. I'm waiting for license as RN (from NM to NY), also I'm a foreing nurse, so I want to know about how long can take it.

Hi the link does not work. does the externship program still exist? I checked the website but did not find it. thanks

No it does not. I have been trying the link from since in November.

I have been offered a position at Georgetown Hospital on their medicine unit, as well as Glendale Adventist Hospital on their Med-Surg Unit. Has anyone attended either program, or have suggestions about which one they think I may get the most experience at? Thanks!

I am a sophomore nursing student at Georgetown U, and I have heard from classmates that our internship program is very hands on and that you will get a lot of experience on your unit, but that the only downside is that you work on the same unit the whole summer and so you don't really get a chance to experience what other units are like, (although you will learn a lot about the unit that you are assigned to). At least that is how it has been in previous years; I would call and find out if the program still runs that way.

Unfortunately I don't know anything at all about Glendale Adventist, but I hope that helps some! Good luck!

Right now is the perfect time to start hunting and applying for summer internships. There are plenty in the NYC area. A few people mentioned Sloan Kettering and Long Island Jewish. But you can also try New York Presbyterian by going to there website, Mount Sinai, Montefiore, and the VA hospital in the city. Try any and everywhere. I regret that I did not start as soon as you because when you start an internship with an institution they are likely to hire you as a new grad nurse. Good luck and let me know how everything goes.
