Montefiore- Interview Process

U.S.A. New York

Published

Hi all. Was hoping someone could help describe the interview process to me at Montefiore. I am a new graduate, and have an interview with HR this week. Do they hire right on the spot after the interview with HR? Also, if I am hired, I'm curious about what the orientation process is like for new graduates. Any help/advice/comments would be great! Thanks :)

The medication exam is very easy basic calculations with calculator and basic med knowledge. The process is you interview with HR and then if HR considers you good candidate they refer you to interview with a Nurse Manager. There is no time line on this however. I interviewed with HR 3 months ago and was informed I will be contacted for interview with a Nurse Manager. I check in with the recruiter about every two weeks and she tells me that I am still being considered and she is trying to match me with a NM to interview with. Idk it's been 3 months already. My friend interviewed with them twice once in April and once in October and each time she was told the same to wait until they find a NM for a fitting unit for her. And so far she has heard nothing. But I know zero experience new grads from May being hired for November so I do not know what criteria HR uses to refer people to NMs for second interview.

Still waiting for my second interview also, it's been almost 2 months now, I call every now and then to check but the lady tells me she still hasn't got anything for me yet! I have no idea how they match a candidate with the NM, so far it's a waiting game. Frustrating indeed...!

I passed both test with 100%, had an interview with a recruiter, and should be hearing back within 4 weeks from a DON! I can't wait

HI HighlyBlessedRN, I also passed the tests with 100%, and interviewed with a recruiter who said I should hear from a Nurse Manager within a month. Here I am ...it's been 3 months (I interviewed in November) and nothing. I follow up about every 2 weeks and recruiter tells me that she is still tryng to schedule me with a Nurse Manager. A poster above also seems to have had the same experience.

I hope it goes well for you, but what I am trying to say is that dates that recruiters give that are not schedule appointments do not hold. They often say we will call you in 2 weeks or a month and that rarely sticks.

Maatus, the recruiter tells me exactly the same thing. Yet, they keep interviewing people and posting jobs on sites like indeed.com. I even asked the recruiter directly to please let me know If I am no longer being considered so I can stop contacting here. The recruiter said no, I am still under consideration but to give her more time. Um, it's been 3 months! My interview went well, I have some experience , certifications, good people skills, etc but nothing. I did hear they hired new grads with just BLS, BSN, and RN license and nothing else. So I have no idea how they select people. On top of that I seen more recent job ads from Montefiore stating that 3 to 5 years hospital experience is required...like really? I been almost a year at an outpatient clinic.

Don't know what they up to really..., why keep interviewing people if you don't have the openings? For the mean time, I am still applying to other places, am not waiting on them.

I heard back from a friend who been there forever and the recruiter did talk to the NM and the NM was actually the one who sent the recruiter my info to set up an initial interview and testing. Hopefully that speeds things up. Either way I have a job offer that I accepted starting march 11 at another hospital just in case. Its less pay but as a new grad I cant complain

Having someone on the inside helps alot. I only applied online with no connections and then got called for interview. I applied elsewhere also, not depending on only one place esp since process is so slow.

It is good you have another offer. I think if you dont hear re: interview and offer from Montefiore by next week then accept your current offer 100%. Even if pay is lower it is still an RN hospital job.

Maatus, now that I see other people post here, there is one thing in common: Connections really help. And now I remember right before my interview with the recruiter started, she pointed to 3 piles of files: Transfers (RNs changing Departments), Internal candidates (and people with connections/know someobody working there) and External Candidates (aka us/people with no connections). The recruiter said how she has so much to sift through and how she is flooded and overwhelmed with requests from internal workers to give their friend or family member who just became an RN an interview and a job.

So I think they fill jobs with internal people and new grads that know people at Montefiore and then if anything is left we people with no connections get called back. Sad and not too fair that connections have such weight. But oh well. That means that our dream hospital job awaits us elsewhere.

So sad indeed how the job market had become. It is connections everywhere you go nowadays, those of us without relatives or friends working in a hospital are just being toyed around with! I have just lost hope of ever getting a position in the hospital, after over 100 applications, and still no job, don't know what else to do. Really frustrating and sad.

The hospital job market in NYC/LI/Westchester is not good. That's why one should look outside the hospital as well. I currently work in a clinic and also do some home care. I am getting some experience, get a salary, and the job is mostly stress free and the patients are interesting, medically and socially. Keeps me busy until a hospital should decide to hire me. Do you currently work as RN? If not look on www.idealist.org and www.socialservice.com for non-hospital based RN positions. These include outpatient clinics, substance abuse treatment programs, residential facilities, organizations working withj Developmental Disabled, etc. Some posts state experience required but apply anyway, including myself I know several people who's first job after getting RN license is in a setting besides the hospital.

Its not always who u know...the job I got an offer for I know no1 from there. Plus I havent received an offer yet from Montefiore so I think we are all in the same boat. This long interview process is brutal and I hope they eventually offer us some positions. Too many of us are unemployed and in debt. Its really a sad and tough situation
