Also, do you know anything about Methodist (park Slope) or Lutheran Hospital?

Isn't it more towards the northern part of the island?

Lutheran and Maimonides are in is Southwest Brooklyn.

Has any here ever worked in Maimonides Hospital in Brooklyn, or do you know someone who has? I'd love to know about the working conditions there. Particularly, I'm a new grad and want to know the real scoop about orientation and adjustment.

Thanks.

I worked at Maimonides in the 70s and it was a good hospital back then. My SO has a relative who has been hospitalized there, repeatedly, in 2003,4, 5. She was infected with MRSA, in 2003 because of a failure of staff to follow precautions, physicians and nursing staff.

Hi there, I'm working at NYM and a recent grad. My friend is working at Maimondes. The orientation for NYM is 7 weeks. 3 weeks of classroom lectures, 2weeks working in the days, and 2 weeks working at night since I am hired for the night shift.

I heard the nurse patient ratio in NYM is really high and turnover is also high. Do you feel that way from what you personally see on the floor? Would you reccomend others to work at NYM? Also, were you put on med surg or did you have a choice of units?

What about your friend at maimonides?

I would really appreciate any info you have.

Thanks!

i dont see a huge turnover at nym where as i heard maimodies has it instead. my friend enjoys her floors. i get to pick the unit meaning med-surg, labor-delivery but the actually floor - no.

Hello,

I am graduating in a few months and am very interested in working at NYM. Is it very difficult to get a job there - did you call or write to them when you applied? I read your bit about the orientation which sounds like a good length. Is it a friendly atmosphere there?

Would you mind if I asked what the salary is like there for a new grad? Pay is a big thing for me as I have huge debts to pay back

Thanks a lot!!!

What I do know is that they will hire to specialty areas - someone I know just got into ICU there.

i believe NYM offers a good length orientation for a med-surg floor. the problem i think with NYM is the patient ratio. between 10-13 patients. i am on a floor that carries 10-1 max. don't know if i am lucky or not. anyhow, pay for a night rn is about 68,000 with an a.a.s. with a b.s.n. add $750 extra.

thanks so much for the info! those ratios sound intense but may be a good way to learn for a new grad? thanks again
