What is going on in Brooklyn?

Just saw on the news that Interfaith is in bankruptcy and maybe shutting down. At this rate there soon won't be any hospitals left outside of Manhattan. *LOL*

Specializes in Primary Care, OR.

This makes me picture a "No Mans Land" of the early days where it was just a straight shoot from Manhattan to LOng Island and the no such thing of the in between LOL

Specializes in Step-Down.

This scares me! Hundreds if not thousands will be layed off half of whome are nurses with hospital expierence. That means new grads will have a much more difficult time in the nyc area

According to local NYC news reports 15 August 2013 is the closing date unless something can be done to save the place.

Specializes in surgical, geriatrics.

I'm finishing my BSN next summer and I'm already a mess and losing sleep over the job situation...this just makes it all worse. I knew things would be hard, that I had timed this really poorly (I waited until I was financially ready and had savings...now I'm wishing I hadn't). I'm terrified, at least once a week I have a freak out that I've probably ruined my life and won't be able to find a job. I know that's a bit overly dramatic but...things are going to be rough. It makes me sad for everyone--nurses, patients, all the supporting staff at these hospitals, and for the hospitals nearby who have to clean up this mess. Brooklyn and Methodist have already reported getting more patients and dealing with short-staffing issues....this could get really ugly.

I've been volunteering at the Brooklyn Hospital and I've seen LICH ambulances dropping off patients, and the ER has been pretty crowded. It's so sad that no one else is willing to save the hospital aside from their doctors and nurses :(

And Brookdale Hospital is expected to declare bankruptcy soon. :(

It serves the poorest neighborhoods in eastern Brooklyn. If it closes it leaves a gap that will not easily be filled.

How do you know about brookdale?

What is the continuing saga of LICH just got a bit wackier yesterday. The judge who approved transfer of LICH assets from Continuum Partners to SUNY Downstate vacated her order on Monday. In her ruling the judge states it is apparent that SUNY Downstate has no interest in running the hospital and that CP would be best suited. This was all news to CP who issued statements saying it was not interested nor willing to resume control of LICH.

Am not going to post a new link but you can find the story in Google news. Just use key words "LICH" or "Long Island College Hospital".
