U.S.A. New York

Published

Who else is taking the NLN this coming monday/tuesday at kingsborough? What are everyone's thoughts of science 25?? Any concerns, comments, questions please feel free to discuss them here. Future applicants feel free to ask any questions, too!

Cant wait until clinicals! Currently have a 3.97 prereq GPA, completed all prereqs except for bio 51. All A's, aside from sci 25 with an A-

Don't mind the pictures the app kept closing out on me!!

On tablets! shouldn't make a big difference though, I'd assume.

Do you know off hand if they assign an equal number of questions per topic? like 5 for apesis, 5 for vital signs, etc...

We are also being tested on teaching, safety, delegation, and diagnostic testing. Several hundred pages worth of reading!!!

Yup, loads of info to read. Mostly all of it we have to read and teach ourselves. They barely touch on major topics that are important. The allure of the program is just that- an allure. It's kinda lame, unprofessional, and disorganized. Plus, some of the professors gotta go!

@mnot88 The program is truly what you make of it (I know it's not the most organized), I've heard things have changed since I have taken Nur18 especially since a lot of students last semester failed. If you need help or clarification on some topics feel free to message me I'll do the best I can to help!

@ironbound for teaching you always want to know the educational/cognitive level of the patient so you know how to tailor your teaching to fit their needs. You always want to teach on a 5th grade level so you are clear to the point and easy to understand. If the patient has problems with eye sight provide large reading material, if they cannot read you can do return demonstration. When communicating with a hearing inpaired pt face them and talk with a normal level voice don't shout. Delegation know what a uap can and can not do, a nurse can never delegate teaching evaluation assessment to a uap. Safety always make sure pt us oriented to room and the floor is clear from all debris. In the home esp with the elderly no lose cords or throw rugs anything that can cause then to trip and fall you want lighting to be good. Grab bars in the bathroom to prevent shower slips.

I tried to think of whatever I could it's deff not everything but was a good brain exercise lol. The book is your bible, I know there's a lot if info in there but try to pick out what's important look at the power points take what's in the slides find it in the book and read to elaborate about those topics. I always hand wrote outlines and still do it helps the material stick for me. MOST IMPORTANT practice questions I can't say this enough, it is so important to get used to the new testing style. Hope you guys do well on the first test!

@nursingstudentjess thanks. Quick question-I saw questions on ATI that referred to lab values. Is the list to be memorized?

Did you go over any specific lab values in class? I would say just to be safe know RBC, WBC, platelets they are pretty basic. As the semester goes on you will have to start memorizing the lab values.

How was the test? Hope everyone did well!!

Thanks! The test was much simpler than expected. There was one question that need lab value info. I made an educated guess and it was right:) of course I will start to get familiar and eventually memorize the values, I just realized late that we would need to refer to it.

Btw, the worst part of the test are the 'check all that apply' questions. Get 3 right and one wrong...and the whole question is wrong...bummer

Glad to hear it went well! Yea the select all that apply questions are a pain .. But they are very big on the boards! Keep doing practice questions and have a good idea of the material and they should start to become easier, sometimes it's good to think of them as true/false questions.
