Did you check your letter and resume for spelling and grammar errors? I notice that you are capitalizing every word in your sentences. If I were sifting through many cover letters and resumes in a day, I'd be filtering out those that had glaring errors.

A big part of nursing is clear and concise communication, especially written, as evidenced by the mountain of paperwork we do during a shift. Your resume and cover letter is your first impression. Make sure it's perfect, then follow up with a phone call to the HR department. Most hospitals have nurse recruitment departments and are looking for new grads, especially in med/surg areas.

Good luck!

TO ANSWER YOUR QUESTION REGARDING RESUME: YES IT WAS LOOKED AT BY A NURSING INSTRUCTOR WITH HER PHD. MY RESUME IS FINE.

LET ME GIVE YOU AN EG. I WENT TO AN OPEN HOUSE AND I SAW NURSES RECOMMENDING THEIR FRIENDS FOR THE POSITION IN FRONT OF OTHER RNS SEEKING EMPLOYMENT. THE RNS WORKED AT THE HOSPITAL THAT KEPT THE OPEN HOUSE AND THEY WERE TALKING TO THE HR PEOPLE AND RECOMMENDING THEIR FRIENDS.

I GET A FEELING THAT I MAY HAVE TO GO FAR TO SEEK EMPLOYMENT.

WHERE THERE IS LITTLE COMPETIOTION.

EVERY ONE I KNOW SO FAR IN BROOKLYN GOT HOOKED UP IN A HOSPITAL.

I HAVE CLASS MATES THAT LIVE IN BROOKLYN AND QUEENS AND THEY TOLD ME THE SAME THING I WAS SHOCKED. I GOT A REALITY CHECK.

I AM GOING TO ASK SOME ONE TO HOOK ME UP AS WELL. I KNOW A HEAD NURSE AT A CERTAIN HOSPITAL AND I AM GOING TO TALK TO HER ON TUE TO ASK HER TO SPEAK TO SOME ONE IN HR.

MY FONT RIGHT NOW IS A CHOICE- I LIKE ALL CAPS BUT I WOULD NEVER PUT THAT IN A RESUME

Specializes in L/D, ICU, Telemtry, Med/Surg.

Have you tried- Lutheran, Methodist, SUNY downstate, or what about Queens?

Obviously you have all the answers you are looking for and are just looking to vent here so I am sorry if I offered some unwanted advice.

Even if you like it, ALL CAPS is SHOUTING.

THANKS FOR TRYING TO HELP

I APPRECIATE IT

Question #1

How about Long Island?

Question #2

Have you like applied for all positions or are you concentrating on applying into a nursing specialty, like say, Peds or Cardiac Cath? I think most Med Surg floors are always open. Always the best way to get one's feet wet IMHO.

Hi, I sent out my resume to the lij health systems on long island last friday and got a response yesterday. a recruiter from HR wants to meet with me next tuesday.

I was trying to avoid long island but now i may have to go there

I apply for Med/Surge positons all the time.

QUESTION:

how does this work? the recruiter interviews me and passes me on to the hiring manager?

Obviously you have all the answers you are looking for and are just looking to vent here so I am sorry if I offered some unwanted advice.

Thats not fair: now that you have told me that all caps is shouting, i will be sensitive to the rules and comply; but to immediately judge me without knowing is not right.

my choice of caps was just customary due to culture and yet i comply. what about cultural sensitivity that they thought us.

I respect all people and will continue to do so but you interpret my response as angry when i am far from it.

not angry at all.

I come here because i think you guys are the greatest and have helped me in the past with questions and suggestions. I am a grateful and thankful person.

Thank You to all the people that has tried to help me.

I appreciate it

So educate me. What culture uses all caps to communicate on internet forums, a place where no one knows your cultural affiliation because all we are relying on is your typing. Passive-aggressively telling me that I am culturally insensitive because I politely suggested that you not type in all caps and that you double check your resume and cover letter due to the amount of spelling, grammar and syntax errors you had on your one post is just about the funniest thing I've read in quite some time. I have no idea where you are from, what you look like, or what culture you affiliate yourself with, nor does it particularly matter to me. What does matter is that you are a nurse without a job who wants one, and as a nurse who would like to have more coworkers and less staffing nightmares, I'd like to see you get one.

I was trying to help, based on the way you presented your issue. That's all I had to go on. Every hospital in the city of New York is not closed off to hiring people that do not have friends on the inside.

Have a nice day,

Blee

god bless and keep you any way

still love you all

after all i cant be a nurse without loving people .

i am sure i will meet pts who are nice and pt who are not so nice

as far as getting a job:

i am sure god will help me to get a job at the right time.

thank god i can always pray and believe and that always works.

because god looks at the heart and remember dont ever put another person down because you dont know when you will need help one day

If you are going to Long Island anyway, how about hospitals in Suffolk county like Brookhaven, Mather, SUNY Stony Brook, Southside, Southampton Hospital? Suffolk is laid back and not hustle and bustle unlike NYC

Yes. Nurse recruiter to Human Resources

Specializes in Med-Surg, Trauma, Ortho, Neuro, Cardiac.

I'll close this thread, since God is on your side.

In the Terms of Service which we all agree to when we sign on it clearly states to not type in all caps. Thanks so much.

Best wishes in your journeys!
