BMCC nursing program

Hey guys,

I am a little bit confused about how BMCC does their admission process for transfer students. I know that they only look at the Pre-clinical nursing courses to get into the Clinical Stage- Eng 101, Psy 100, BIO 425 (which I've already taken already at another CUNY college). As for transfer students, they are given an option to request one time during the first semester of enrollment the removal of transfer credit in one or more of the pre-clinical nursing. Does that mean we're allowed to retake a certain pre-clinical course over just so to improve the grade and not have the credit from the previous college be transferred over to BMCC? (for example, you get a C+ in ANP1 at another college but decide to take it again at BMCC and not have that C+ transferred over) Basically, is it kind of like choosing the pre-clincial courses you want and do not want to count as a transfer credit?

Thanks so much!

yes, it is what you said. They give you a one time choice of not tranferring in a preclinical course. You get a chance to retake that course in BMCC, and whatever grade you get in that, thats what they use to calculate your average. The course that you dont get transferred in is like you never took it before. I also untransferred my AP1 grades, so I repeated it in BMCC, and now am in the program, going into Nur211(2nd semester)

Hey girls,

I would be registering at BMCC today (I was originally registered with NYC City Tech but I really felt that no one was helping me so I decided to apply to BMCC. I got accepted and now here I am. I am planning to not transfer over my English because I received a B- and I just feel I should take it over again and hopefully, I will get an A, you know.

Rsantos718: When are you planning to take your pre-clinical courses? I will be doing mine in the summer all through spring 2009. Maybe we can get to know each other since we will be going to the same school, if you like or chat via email.

FutureRN19: How is the program at BMCC? Is there anything I should be aware for instance the "reall" GPA average that they look for in order to be accepted in the program? If I don't get into the program (even if i have an extremely great average), is there a waiting list? Can you also explain the quality of the program, too? I have an aunt who is an RN who went to NYC tech and she believes there is no program that really prepares but I just feel there are good programs versus not so good programs? what professors I should consider when taking my nursing classes? How is clinicals? They sound like fun. I would like to meet up with you, if you like and we can chat or maybe email, whichever is better for you.

Hey BMCC friends. I just got accepted to BMCC as Pre-Clinical Students and hopefully I can apply for Jan 2009.

Any suggest which professor to take.

FutureRN19 : You have gave me 3 professor to take A&P I, Psy, and Mat 104. Slavin have 1 more spot, Clauis no more spot and Ford no where to be found on Panther. Any more suggestion. Do you have to take Chemistry as a pre-req?

Hi,

I just got accepted to BMCC as Pre-Clinical Nursing Student. Hopefully can apply in Jan 2009 if I can be waived for Chemistry because I took all of my Science course already. I need to repeat Psy and A&P I. any suggest which professor to take? I can only register on August 20th in person. I signed on to Panther and I can register but didn't finalize it. Can I do that?

Also, do you know if they accept the same amount of student in evening/weekend program each semester? Which one you think it's more competitive day or evening?

For PCN classes it doesn't have to be evening/weekend until I get into in the program and then I have to stick with evening/weekend right? For PCN can i take days and evening class combine?

Thanksss! Hope to hear from you guys.

CaramelP : did you get accept on PCN yet?

FutureRN19 : Hey, you have gave me names for the course. Mr Slavin have only one spot left. Hope Aug 20th there will be people dropping classes! Claire class is DTBA? Is that a online class? and I think Mr. Ford. I cant find him in Psy. Do you have e-mail adddress? Do you have to take Chemistry?

hey, Im also thinking about applying to BMCC for Spring 2009. I heard that it is a good nursing program. I took all my prereqs but I have to repeat A&P 1 since I recieved a C. Maybe we can all continue chatting and exchanging info since we will be in the same school.

Hey!!

I am wondering if any of you guys took A & P 425 with David Krauss at BMCC. I went to ratemyprofessor and he's 1.3. I am very nervous of this class. I am going to have his first exam next week and I am so not ready. He teaches right from the book. AaRRGGHh... I need some help and suggestion. I need a A in this course to help me to get into the program. I am also taking psy 100 and mat 104.

Hey Jyang926,

I decided to take Fall 2008 semester, had to be readmitted and will attend Spring 2009. After I finish my pre-reqs, they told me I can switch my status to PCN but I have to wait a whole semester to apply for my clinical courses. I am still considered a liberal arts students

Hi, I am a BMCC grad and can hopefully offer some insight.

First of all, I think the college accepts everyone into pre-clinical. It's getting "accepted" into the nursing program that is not for everyone. As others have stated, there are four courses that determine your admission to the program. DO NOT TRANSFER IN ANYTHING LESS THAN AN "A" for those four courses. I have a Bachelor's from a top-rated private university and received a B+ from there in one of those four subjects and did not transfer it in. It was just easier and less stressful for me to just re-take at BMCC and get A's. That being said, I got four "A's" in the four required classes and had no stress - - I knew I was getting into the program. There were a few classmates of mine who transferred in "A-minuses" and were total STRESS-CASES that they might not get in. In my opinion it is just easier to re-take, focus and get your A's to guarantee your admission.

Good luck to everyone.

Hi everybody,

I am new to this forum and got some wonderful tips on preclinical nursing at BMCC. I took my Psy100 (got an A) at Hunter but realized I need to get into evenings/weekend classes for Nursing so I transferred to BMCC. I just registered two days ago for MAT104 for Spring 2009. I was unable to get A&P1 since it was already full. It was a little bit difficult trying to enroll as my transcript was missing and when they found it, they evaluated some of my transfer credits on the spot. Unfortunately, I did not realized that ENG101 was one of the preclinical req. and I have a B on that one. Is it too late to ask Admissions to have it removed as I already enrolled for the M104 class, which will start on Monday? Or should I just drop this class and then reregister in Summer after making sure Eng101 is removed? Any advice will be great! Thank you!
