  1. Also to the OP, I actually use the PRi where I work LOL. It's somewhat often but it entirely depends on if the pt is going to or back to a nursing home. Many NHs request it frequently. We wonder how long it's good for because we have done for the same cases numerous times which can be redundant. I don't know if it evens good for a week because many NH wouldn't even take a pt in if it has been done over a week ago. But I do use it in my job as it's mandatory.
  2. Hey! So I actually obtained the PRI certificate with University of Albany. Things have changed because you can complete an online, self-pace training. Back then when I did it, it was an in-person class that I had to attend. I believe that it was 2017 when I got it. But Google "PRI certificate University of Albany". I don't think it was that costly, I think I paid 200 but I don't remember. I believe it was worth it since it's needed for case/care management roles along with the SCREEN (which I didn't get but it would be good to get. But I think SCREEN component is more completed by SW though). It's not a difficult class but you have to complete the modules and the quizzes associated with it. I think it looks easier to do because it's self-pace/online.
  3. I totally agree! As a nurse, I observed the difference between psychiatrists and Psych-NP, and I dont want to make one better than the other because they both practice "differently". But I do feel the Psych-NPs are definitely proactive with doing blood work from time to time to assess Depakote, lithium levels, etc. The Psychiatrist that I worked with my experience would "collaborate " with the nurses but in the same breath, didnt really take our opinions and clinical judgment, seriously. We even work with a medical doctor in our clinic and it has been a pain to work with her as well. But I know all Drs are not the same and some Psych-NPs or NPs in general may be hard to work with too. But I do appreciate the Psych-NP we have on our team, he is very accurate and proactive.
  4. Thanks for the feedback, anchorRN! Unfortunately, when I had called the KU, they told me that NY students are not authorized to attend their program and even others (something with NY regulations). But because of all these restrictions for NY students who cannot apply to non-NYS programs, I'm entertaining the thought of relocating. But I do appreciate your advice!
  5. Thanks Futureprovider! I definitely dont want to give up but I did feel a it discouraged before. I am currently looking for a few classes at some universities at the moment. Nevertheless, I appreciate the advice!
  6. Thank you, pro-student for your response. There were personal reasons why I wasnt able to maintain my 3.0 GPA since midway through the semester, I was dealing with family issues. Nevertheless, I was very proud of myself to finish and did not allow my situation to dictate my future. At least, for now, I was able to obtain my BSN and work as a nurse. I mean, if anything, I will just have to get a masters in nursing administration instead and see if I can prove myself in that manner. Maybe afterwards I can get into NP school. Thanks again.
  7. At this point, I would consider Maryville online PMHNP program due to the fact that with my less than stellar GPA, I may not get into anything else. I'm just a tiny but below a 3.0 but all of the PMHNP programs I have contacted (brick and mortar, online/distance learning programs within NYC and outside NYC) do heavily weigh the GPA or that's what they indicated to me. For the out of state programs, many of them are not authorized to take NY students at the moment so I guess many things have changed. So Maryville seems like my last choice at this point. If not, then I may just have to get a masters in nursing administration (with no desire to be in administration). Just a bit frustrated at this point.
  8. Any recommendations for programs in NY?
  9. Hi, I know you posted a while ago but wanted to know how didntour clinical psych rotations went? Although the school is online based, do you have to find your own preceptor? And how are their admission criteria? Please let me know. I live in NYC btw so my worry is definitely getting into a program with a low GPA but also attending any in person classroom instruction and rotations.
  10. I'm also curious if you have the psych experience but not the GPA? I realize the minimum is 3.0 for many of these programs. I'm starting to feel a bit discouraged now. I think that's why I held of from applying because I just assumed they wont look at my application.
  11. Hello my fellow nurses, I'm a behavioral health nurse currently and I have some inpatient ward experience but most of my 2 plus years experience is in outpatient behavioral health. I am really interested in apply for any PMHNP (online mostly, accredited) programs but my GPA is not 3.0 and my concern is that these programs wont even look at my portfolio. I known these programs are very competitive in general but I'm just looking for any suggestions of programs that dont emphasize GPA but are also online and somewhat affordable? I know I cant be extremely picky about tuition since I dont have the GPA requirement but I do want it to be somewhat mid average I have called two programs so far that said the minimum GPA is 3.0 and I wont have a chance. Mine is 2.75. Also I am interested in NY programs but I dont mind out of state ones. My only stress is that I have to find my own preceptor and figure out my own clinical sites which can be a pain too (I had to do this for my BSN undergrad and thank God I was able to find one that was willing to work with me). Any information and guidance would help. Thank you!
  12. Hi LaraRN86, I am interested in applying. Can you message me the following information: Is it really hard to find your own preceptor? I'm on the ACT and work a regular 9 to 5. Tuition: is it something I can't pay for myself? Can I take two classes a second semester? Do I have to take classes and do clinicals simultaneously? Do you recommend me going into inpatient psych? I never worked inpatient only outpatient. Are they strict with the goal requirement? Did you feel prepared for the certification exam? Have you ever applied to Hunter psych np program? I If you had to do it all again, would you go back to Stonybrook? Are the online classes extremely difficult like you are able to manage family and children duties? We're you able to find a job afterwards?
  13. Thanks Sugare82! I was actually looking at previous progress notes from our patients to get an idea but what you mentioned in your posting is exactly what's described as our format. We do have a template that we use so that helps us in terms of staying on track. Yes, I definitely want to do things correctly because like you said, we have to meet requirements and our visits are billable so staying compliant with governmental regulations are important. Thanks for responding, :-)
  14. Hello fellow nurses, I have a question about documentation specifically for any nurses on the ACT team: what would be a standard format in terms of what needs to be documented after a patient visit for example receiving a monthly injection? I just want to make sure I chart everything correctly and not give too much (rambling) or too little. Thanks! About me: NY nurse with non-clinical background with minor homecare and endoscopy experience. My first job in psych outpatient. I'm excited and nervous!
