can anyone on this forum tell me about NJ correctional nursing. How do they train you, what are your responsibilities, how safe it is, How do they keep you safe with the inmates and so forth. Where do you work, and any additional infor would be extremely helpful:confused: I'm having no luck finding a job through the conventional areas of nursing.......
hey dragon have u heard anything from umdnj , i'm thinking about applying as well :), are they even hiring ( i'm from texas so i have no idea about anything in north jersey lol ) will be moving to north jersey at the end of this yr
I am not sure which UMDNJ your applying to but if its the one in Stratford,NJ let me know and I can check and see if there hiring. They dont always post everything. Around here sometimes its who you know and my mom works there :) Email me
They list the base pay in the UNDNJ job site. This is how it worked at the prison when I was there last year. I had no experience so I got $25/hr base pay. So first shift (6-230pm) was 25/hr. A weekend or holiday add $5 per hr. Second shift add $7/hr, 3 rd shift add $12. So second shift on a weekend was 25+5+7/hr! It was pretty decent.
No problem, anjresident. If you're in a state prison then that's how it should work, unless they changed things. Good luck. It's not a bad job, so long as you're comfortable using your skills solo. They will give 20 shifts of orientation so use that to your advantage. You'll undoubtedly be the "compound nurse", overseeing the whole place!
just like previous comments, go to umdnj's employment website. im guessing, that umdnj handles the bulk of correctional nursing in nj.
