  1. Bottem line ... you are there to treat their postsurgical pain, not their addition or history of addiction. That's what rehab is for and not for your colleague to withhold medication that was rightfully ordered. Shame on them!
  2. "When in doubt, check it out" and Don't be afraid to ask questions. Don't be afraid to talk your way through why you may need to do something. Don't be afraid to say something doesn't seem right. Dont be afraid to advocate for ur patient. Short Story: Had a patient today tachy and Low O2 on RA. No chest pain , no SOB. Post op day 2 from total knee. Stated she wanted to go home. Just didn't seem right. Called surgeon who didn't want a CTA. She had one kidney with low GFR. He felt she wasn't clinically presenting as a PE and more anemia from blood loss and atelectstasis. X-ray looked like she may have had some congestion .. just didn't sit right with me. Called the medical Doctor because surgeon wasn't convinced. she ordered a VQ scan .. guess what ... bilat PE.
  3. What are good some websites to search for APN jobs. I currently use Indeed, Monster, CareerBuilder. Is there others that APNs use? Thanks!
  4. I recently graduated from Rutgers University in NJ with a APN degree in Adult and Gerontology. I'm curious from my NJ colleages as to what are some credible posting web pages. I've researched Indeed. com; careerbuilder.com and others. I'm curious to see if I may be missing some valuable job opportunities. THANK YOU!!
  5. Why not take the job and keep looking. You can earn money, save, or pay back your loans. When you find something that you really want to do you can go do that. Currently the market is tight, you may pass this opportunity over and then be jobless for a while.
  6. I would send an email expressing your interest in the position. However, I would not call until after the timeframe they told you had passed. Good luck!
  7. Congrats.. !!!!!!!!!!!! I too just landed a job!! It took me an entire year from when I graduated. It was tough but patience paid off!!
  8. Questions they could ask you: This nursing job requires training and experience in ......... Tell me how your training and experience fulfill this requirement Why are you interested in this particular nursing job? Why do you want to work in our hospital and/or community? Also be prepared to have some knowledge about the mission/vision of the hospital and I would be prepared to say how the facility mission/vision aligns with your career goals. If you are leaving a position, be prepared to answer why you want to leave (be positive in your response!!) Don't slam your current employer.. Questions you can ask your interviewer... how do you train... is it a mixture of classroom and hands on. How long will your training be? What is the average patient load should you expect to have? Will you be assigned a single preceptor or work with multiple individuals? If you don't feel comfortable at the end of your oriention, could you request more time? How will you be evaluated during your orientation? On average, how many nurses and techs per shift. You could ask your interviewer what was their career path and how did they end up in thier current position? Good luck... you can do an internet search you can find alot more potential interviewer/interviewee nursing questions.
  9. Its hard but not impossible. It took me a year and almost upon my year anniversary of graduating school, I got an interview and landed the job. Keep trying, Try everything within reason, and also network. Volunteer to get know the nurses and managers. Perhaps they can help you or keep you in mind when a position does open up.
  10. Took me a year to find something. I start in Sept. Be persistent, take classes, seminars, volunteer and network. something will pan out eventually.
  11. 26.71 for new nurse no experience I am working nights so there is a 5.00 differential. Three months of training.
  12. Good luck!!!! They receive a lot of applications I was told by the hr recruiter that's they received two pages of applications for the position they hired me for.
  13. I landed a job there, not the one I had interviewed for but at least they considered me for a position that they thought would be the best fit.... I glad to be on my way to the next phase of my career.
  14. Keep trying and apply to everything you can. Volunteer and network as much as possible. I had 10yrs of pharma experience and that doesn't really help out all that much. It took me over a hundred apps, with only two interviews to get a position. It's not an easy market here in NJ.... it's tough but don't give up. Something will pan out. If you have the option of looking into other state (like you seem to have) then you may get lucky out of state.
  15. Hello.. I just landed a position at Community Medical Center as an RN.. I'm almost a year out from school and i need to take the pharmacology exam. Any pointers on what to brush up on or what to expect?
