LPN to RN Schools in/near Philadelphia?
- PLEASE HELP i cant get into nursing school
Yes I live in NJ and I too attended CCC and received my associates in science so all my pre reqs are done except that I have Bs in the science classes and I am considering retaking them to get As even though I have already taken some of them twice. I dont know if it will help but Im deff going to look into it. In the meantime I have looked into lourdes and yea they have a pretty long wait, about 2 years. Ive just decided to do CCCs LPN program and work my way up. Im hoping to transfer right away into an RN program but I dont know if my GPA or TEAS score will get in the way of that transition. If you know anything about the requirements for any NJ or PA LPN-RN programs please feel free to share :)- Aria School of Nursing September 2012
Thanks I will try to stay positive and in any case I have my back up plan set up so yea Im sure ill be fine. Thanks :)- Prism Career Institute in Northeast Phila??
Im glad everything worked out for you but trust me when I tell you there are a lot and I mean a lot of people out there that would argue with you. Yes they might have enjoyed the program but honestly I dont care how much fun I have or how nice the instructors are all I care about is where I am going to be working when I am done and a lot of people are stuck with no job offers and huge student loans. Also, I do believe it depends on where your applying for employment because if your looking for work in a nursing home they might be a little more lenient towards where your certification was received and believe it or not trade schools and tech schools are often looked down upon by healthcare employers. Of course this isnt always the case but with the competitive nature of this field I really wouldnt risk it especially if you plan on transferring into a RN or BSN program. But yea there are always exceptions so I encourage you to, before you make any definitive plans, do some more research. I personally like to look up LPN jobs in my area and see what they look for and Id also look up RN and BSN programs to see what there requirements are as well. Many of them just require the degree and experience but there are some that care about where you went to get it. Anyways, good luck and KEEP US POSTED...lol...- Forensic Nursing LPN?
Thanks sooo much BIG help!- WHY does a B.S. + RN not equal BSN
O lol I meant RN diploma but in any case in Philly we have a lot of ASN to BSN programs and I always thought with my AS in Science as a Pre-Nursing major combined with an LPN that I would qualify for an ASN-BSN program. I'm kinda confused as to how you'd go about getting an ASN if an AS in Science isn't the same thing?- WHY does a B.S. + RN not equal BSN
I wasnt able to read all the post but I am curious...does a associates in science (I was a nursing major) plus an RN degree give you a ADN? if not, why its the same classes...- PLEASE HELP i cant get into nursing school
thanks so much. i really needed to hear that :) yea i’m more motivated than ever to do whatever it takes. i’m super excited to get started and have even been looking at different types of jobs i could get after i earn my lpn because i honestly don’t want to work in a nursing home. i know that’s typical and it’s not like i’m going to starve lol ill do what i have to but really i’d rather not work there. i’m looking into psychiatric facilities, rehab centers and corrections facilities in my area (philly) and it seems they do hire lpns. so yea i am deff going to take that route because honestly (this probably sounds bad but...) i would rather work in a prison then a nursing home any day.- Forensic Nursing LPN?
Ok thanks. Im still just a little confused as to what my next steps should be after earning my LPN. Theres so many acronyms for so many different types of programs based off of different degrees, its just a little too confusing for me lol. Can someone please help me break it down? I did use the link above and located some SANE programs in my area (Phila-Camd) but it didnt offer much information about the requirments for the program or the program itself. Are there different types of forensic nurses and if so what are the ones that only require you to have an LPN? Does anyone know of any places in Philly (or the surrounding areas) that actually hire forensic LPN's?- Do you think I will be accepted to nursing school
LPN program yes with no problem. But if your looking for a RN or BSN program you may have some difficulties. Dont give up tho keep trying and worst case senerio do an LPN program and just work your way up...like ME :)- Forensic Nursing LPN?
I am new to this site. What does that mean?- Aria School of Nursing September 2012
I currently attend BCC and I also applied to Aria in the fall. I have an associates in Science from CCC so all my pre reqs are completed. I also took the TEAS, they were based off of a 12th grade curriculum so if you can remember that far back you should be fine lol. Just kidding it was fairly easy I didn't study at all and scored Proficient but I'm thinking of retaking it to increase my chances. I would suggest using a study guide and doing a practice test but don't sweat it too much. You'll do fine. I've given up on being nervous because I know I won't get in. I didn't get into Gynedd Mercy so I figure the same will be for Aria. I've decided to just do an LPN program and work my way up.- Thinking about becoming an LPN!
[color=#333333]this might help explain a few thing. ive posted the link to the website where i got this information. hope it helps...good luck :) lpns care for patients in many ways. often, they provide basic bedside care. many lpns measure and record patients' vital signs such as height, weight, temperature, blood pressure, pulse, and respiration. they also prepare and give injections and enemas, monitor catheters, dress wounds, and give alcohol rubs and massages. to help keep patients comfortable, they assist with bathing, dressing, and personal hygiene, moving in bed, standing, and walking. they might also feed patients who need help eating. experienced lpns may supervise nursing assistants and aides.[color=#333333]as part of their work, lpns collect samples for testing, perform routine laboratory tests, and record food and fluid intake and output. they clean and monitor medical equipment. sometimes, they help physicians and registered nurses perform tests and procedures. some lpns help to deliver, care for, and feed infants.[color=#333333]lpns also monitor their patients and report adverse reactions to medications or treatments. lpns gather information from patients, including their health history and how they are currently feeling. they may use this information to complete insurance forms, pre-authorizations, and referrals, and they share information with registered nurses and doctors to help determine the best course of care for a patient. lpns often teach family members how to care for a relative or teach patients about good health habits. licensed practical and licensed vocational nurses- I have to take the TEAS test....
Its based off a 12th grade curriculum so yea idk how old you are but if you can remember that far back your good. There are also plenty of practice books and websites that have practice test. I took it about a year ago and got a 73%. I havent retaken it yet but I am considering it since Im having a hard time getting into a RN program to the point were Im actually considering just doing an LPN program and working my way up. I will say that it was fairly simple but I didnt study at all for it. I mean I registered for it the night before I took it so yea Im sure next time ill actually study and do much better.- Turning in my two weeks notice today!
I agree the job market is so competitive right now that you should deff wait until you have another job lined up. It could be awhile before you land another gig. Also, is it just me or does it seem like the high demand for nurses has led some companies to treat the ones they have like crap? Recently, I have been hearing a lot of horror stories about nurses being over worked and made to feel like their easily disposable. Is this what I have to look forward to or is it all just hype? - PLEASE HELP i cant get into nursing school
