Saunders Study Exams

Nursing Students NCLEX

Published

Hi all-

I'm scheduled to take NCLEX next month and have been studying with Saunders 5th addition. I've been doing the 100 question exams on the CD and have been averaging around 70%. Is that good? Has anyone passed the NCLEX on Saunders alone?

Thanks!

When I used Saunders' CD, my avg score was in the 70s. I had the comprehensive study guide...that book is so big though that I mostly reviewed content I was weak in...then I also had the Saunders Q & A book and I did all of the questions and made sure to review the rationale for the answers...when I got to the NCLEX, personally I thought it was a test you could really never study all the content for, however, if you've been taught how to read the questions and answer them, that was what counted. Saunders is a great help in learning how to answer the questions. I think a lot of NCLEX was strategy! and it was the 4th edition I used!

I think the 4th Edition is the newest one...at least it is for the NCLEX-PN ,,not sure about the NCLEX-RN though

I just took my boards July 3, and did a few questions from Saunders. I did about 90% Kaplan. I find the nclex to be in a class by itself, although, I may say, Kaplan was more helpful because the questions were harder. Sauders; on the other hand, the questions were too easy. Saunders is great for the contents and can be use with another book with harder questions similar to the nclex like NCSBN, which I used too. This is my opinion.

I can't find 5th edition too, even in the site www.elsevierhealth.com,

i wonder where did she got it????

ohh! i see, just read an update message saying it's 4th edition. Thanks!

I have the 3rd edition in the comprehensive and the third edition in the Q & A....should I not use those I plan on taking mine again in September....I'm wondering if I should go out and buy the 4th edition...I just dont know if there would be a big difference in the material. Any opinions appreciated.

I haven't seen the 3rd edition but I wouldn't think there is too much difference between that and the 4th edition. Since nothing substantial has happened in the nursing world that would dramactically change content, I would save my money. Plus I know people who used older editions of books in nursing school and did very well on exams. No matter the edition, human anatomy stays they same.

I used the Saunders Comprehensive book along with Sauders Statagy for Success book. The stratagy book was very helpful, because it gave testing tips, drug tips in case you may not know what a drug is for ex: if it has "vir" in word it's probably an antiviral drug, and it also had the alternative format questions. I strictly used the CD's to study and any question I got wrong or struggled to get right, I would bookmark the question, so it will come up again. Also, would read the reason why my answer was wrong or why I struggled to get right, since the reading in box is much more condensed. I was able to pass the 1st time around. Good Luck with taking your exam!! :wink2:

i agree about saunders! I have 4 edition book which i use for content but use the 3 edition questions to practice. I got tired and switch up to nclex 3500 and 4000 but saunders is the bible. good luck to everyone taking the nclex soon i am schedule for august 5. I feel confident keep doing questions everyday 100 to 120 go over rationales. go over content like drugs, disease process, lab values, and practicing delegation and priorization stuff. i hope thats enough!
