I failed the nclex exam. From those of you who passed, what did you use as your rule of thumb to answer prioritizing questions and delegation? :o

I Failed My Nclex 2 Times, I Finally Passed On The Third Attempt. I Found The Kaplan Book To Be Very Helpful. When I Left There I Thought I Had Failed I Got 77 Questions.

Sorry to hear that. It was a hard test, no doubt.

I had alot of priority questions myself and my clinical experience is would helped me answer them........not studying from a book. Although a good NCLEX book is good to review......only pick one to study from......too much info will overwhelm you. You already know that airway comes first......if that answer isn't obvious to you, think of what could contribute to oxygen, airway, breathing, etc.

You'll pass next time since you now know how the test is formatted.

Think ABC's & Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs- those cover almost anything.

As for delegation, you may not delegate any assessment, teaching, or evaluation to any other than an RN (no lpn or cna); that usually gets it down to 1 or 2 answers.

Priority, focus on ABCs, and Maslow ( physical always comes before psychosocial) Remember that on the NCLEX that pain is considered psychosocial.

Hope that helps some!

I take mine this thursday...Good Luck!

Kaplan, ABC"s and Maslow;s Hierarchy of needs...... by reading the strategies in Kaplan, remembering your ABC"s come as a priority, knowing if you have psych patient, in most cases safety is a priority, and for the rest, using maslow's hierarchy of needs.... knowing food, fluids, elimination comes first, safety second, pain/psychosocial third, etc.....................................

I bought 3 review books... kaplan, saunders, and lippincott's and went through 1000's of practice questions, atleast a few chapters a night........ then used the review cd roms that came with them to go over questions and I really think that helped! Good luck and let us know how it goes!!! :)

These comments are from 2004, they recommend Kaplan, is this a good study source for 2009? I have to take it a 2nd time. Any other advise?

Hi there and good luck on passing the exam next time. I took the test and failed the first time and i am scared to death to retake it but i know i really worked hard to get this and i am going to. I've asked for a lot of help on this site and have gotten plenty of advice on what and how to study but like everyone is saying about the abc's i've found to be very helpful in studying so hopefully it'll pay off when i retest.........

hi! I also failed on my first try and i knew i would fail before the test. I lack content when i took nclex the first time, i only focused on strategies like physical vs psychosocial, abc & maslows of kaplan. After i got the letter that i failed,i just smiled and told myself nclex-rn is not as hard as the cpa board exam. i made sure the next time i face the nclex, i would be ready enough. I answered thousands of questions and read the kaplan coursebook. I answered saunders 4th ed cd,kaplan qbank & kaplan trainers, exam cram & la charity. This time i made sure i knew a lot of content and knew when strategies work. Combination of content and strategies will make you pass nclex-rn. And the most powerful tool, prayers!!!

goodluck! if we passed nclex-rn and so you can.. :clown:
