How long did you wait to take nclex rn

Nursing Students NCLEX

Published

I am graduting in a week, and want to take the nclex within a month because I have been accepted into a critical care nurse residency program and have to be an RN before the start date in JULY. I am planning on taking the kaplan on demand for and finish it i a month and want to take the exam at the end of may or early june. I started studying for the nclex in school and I have been using saunders, nclex 3500, LaCharity, and also Davis success series (for med surg, peds, and OB). I have completed more than 3000 questions so far. and just want to focus on Kaplan now. I feel like I am good in content cos the knowledge from nursing school is still fresh

My question is did anyone take the nclex a month after graduation and passed? any advice?

thanks

I took the NCLEX about 3 1/2 weeks post graduation with no review course other than my ATI books & online practice tests. Some of my classmates tested at 2 1/2 -3 weeks and passed.

Some people do much better the closer to graduation than waiting for months post graduation as the information and practical knowledge is still fresh in their minds.

thanks for the feedback

Hello there, just want to let u know that I took the nclex a week after graduating in the state of Florida. Although it was PN, it's still an NCLEX and I passed. I think you should be good to go. Remember, you're only needed to get 60% of the questions right. I think the stateboard exams are usually much more easier than the questions you get in the class. Goodluck to u!!!!

Good luck and might i suggest you not rush it because if you by chance do not pass you have to wait 45 days before can retake. STudy, prepare and if you're not understanding somethign look up the rational read up on the topic via textbook or saunders. I waited and studied for 2.5 months, 8.1k questions, scoring above 65% in all kaplan question trainers. The students in my class who took it within 1 month of graduating were ones which were very strong students to start even from 1st semester the rest of us needed to clock in some serious studying in 2-3 months of prep time. Hi lizzyreg

thanks for your advice

Hi Inori

I understand your point about not rushing into it cos I may have to wait 45 days if I don't pass. but I have been waiting for this day for a long time, and now I have my dream job as a critical care RN been offered to me on condition that I pass the nclex before the start.

I feel I stand a good chance of passing the first time with Kaplan because I have studied for this exam since my last year in nursing school, doing questions and rationales from every book, but my nerves are killing me and there is always that little voice in my head telling "I could screw this up"

Also be aware that the BON has to authorise you and that may take longer than a month as a lot will depend on how quick your school sends in transcripts and how quickly the BON acts on your application

I talke to some past students n the secretary at our school who is responsible for sending our stuff to the BON n she said she sends them as soon as we are done n it has taken past students max of a week to get authorization for the may graduates but for the December graduates it can take weeks. Since I'm graduating in may I'm anticipating to get authorization in two weeks n will sign up for the earliest available time to take the exam

About five weeks from graduation to NCLEX testing. But I graduated in March; whereas, many schools graduate their students in May and June, which could create a delay in application processing.

I took the nclex within 2 weeks of graduating and I am so glad I did. I only used online practice exams and saunders. I used the online kaplan qtrainer to follow my progress. I passed with 75 questions and felt very prepared. You can do it!

Thanks for the encouragement
