Help!!! I am so nervous I sit my boards on July 23rd 2002

  1. Hi there everyone,
I have just graduated fom Nursing school, and I am scheduled to sit my boards (LPN) on July 23rd (my b-day of all days), and I am so nervous, I have been studying mostly 4 hrs QD since graduation (June 30th), and I feel like I am never going to be ready. Does anyone have any ideas on how I can keep calm and sane until this is all over?
I have been using Lippincott's review for NCLEX-PN, and it has over 1950 ? plus a disk to use, but I feel like I could possible do 10000 ? and still not be ready to sit the boards. Does it matter as far as pass or fail when it comes to the # of ? you were upto before the computer shuts off? I keep hearing 85 is the magic #, is this correct?
Oh my goodness, I feel like such a fool for worrying this much, any input from you all out there will be much valued.

first let me say, congratulations on graduating from school! i wish you all the best on your nclex-pn. i took the lpn boards when it was done by pencil and paper, so i can't give you any advise. i do feel that answering many questions from the book you have and or other books are a plus.

i would not study at all on monday. i would try to do something that takes your mind of it just a minute or so. get a good night sleep, eat breakfast on tuesday morning and arrive at least 30 minutes before you are expected to take your exam.

    all the best to you!

Thanks Stephany for the encouragement, I will try not to study on Monday, but I am finding it hard to get my nose out of my books even for a 1hr break, I feel like I am wasting time if I am doing other things not related to studying.....I will keep everyone informed of how things went.........

Oh! and the worse thing is is that my exam is not scheduled until 16:45 so I have all day to sit around and get even more worked up...........

Jayne...congratulations on finishing LPN school! :hatparty: and welcome to the world of nursing.

The best advise I could give you is to trust what you learned and applied in school and in your clinicals. If you did well through all of that, you'll do well on the exam. :kiss

I took the "loooooonggggg pen and pencil NCLEX" where we had to get a passing score of a 1600 points, so I can't help you with the computer generated questions they are giving now to nursing grads. 75 points or anything under 1600 points still blows my mind when I hear nursing grads talking about the computer shutting off at such low numbers. :chuckle

    Ok Jayne,
First take a few deep breaths. Now remember that you graduated from a good school. The boards test only the bare minimum level of compatency and you are WAY beyond that. Over 80% of those taking the boards pass the first time. On Monday schedule a massage, manacure and pedicure. Have a nice dinner with people you want to be around, have one or two glasses of wine, just enough to make you sleepy go to sleep early. On Tuesday morning do not have more than one cup of coffee, makes you jumpy, turnes the shomach, and you'll have to pee during the test. (Hope you can see that this is tongue in cheek) Mostly, relax and have confidence in yourself.

    #1: don't forget to breathe!!!

#2: i hear a little bit of chocolate an hour or so before the test helps. something with the chemicals?!

#3: don't tire yourself out studying. you sound like a very diligent person. you probably know a lot more than you give yourself credit for. the worst thing that can happen is that you fail, but you do get another chance. so ultimately, you haven't failed unless you give up.

i know the last bit might not be too encouraging, sorry! i also agree with the rest of the gang. keep us updated and GOOD LUCK! :wink2:
