Failed CRNE, now doing NCLEX-RN

Nursing Students NCLEX

Published

Hi everyone. I am so sad with my life right now because I found out this week that I failed the CRNE. I studied really hard for it, and failed it by 4 points. Pass is 550 and I got 546. The only problem now is that I really don't know how to study any differently if I were to take it again. Instead, I decided to have a go at the NCLEX because I already registered and paid for it. I am wondering what your guys' tips are to study and whether anyone has any sample study schedules that they wouldnt mind sharing with me? Also, have any of you failed the CRNE but passed the NCLEX?

I highly recommend Saunders for NCLEX. get the yellow one with the CD. Do the questions. Maybe buy a Kaplan question bank. I dedicated 6 hours a day of studying. I would read and do about 250 questions a day and reviewed the rationales. Really understand why or why not your got the questions right. Find your areas of weakness and really focus on them.

Is the NCLEX more medical-surgical based? My weakest area is medical-surgical content.

I

also like you failed crne and now doing nclex I bought all the books people on here recommended like Saunders, lacherity, hurst review and kaplan

My heart goes out to you. I bought Kaplan, Lacharity, Saunders, and a med book to study. I also will be buying the Kaplan question bank. Are you planning on re-taking the CRNE again? I'm not retaking it because I don't know how to study better. Studying for that exam was useless, didn't help at all.

I have no intentions on retaking crne.

When is the first NCLEX? I wish you both the best of luck! Hang in there :)

The first NCLEX in Canada starts in January 2015. But I'll be taking the USA one. and Thanks. I will really need it.

HI cupquake & hopefullapass, I'm in same boat as I failed June crne and now going to write nclex..hopefully in first week of Nov. I just got authorized email with validity period from aug to 12 Nov. I am very confused and having hard time to decide whether rewrite crne or not. I am taking the minnesota board exam. How about you guys?? What state did you guys apply to?? Please reply thank you!

Hi guys. I badly need your help- I failed crne3times..does anyone knows whether I can take the nclex-rn now that's it's replacing crne?

i wrote 5 years ago do you think can can still trace my records that I took crne if I will apply to another province? I'm just curious

I'm in USA but have relatives in AB. Actually Alberta seems to be one of the first province to start the NCLEX-

RN requirement. They implemented it as of October 1st 2014 to become an Alberta Registered Nurse with persons who already registered prior to October will be allowed to take CRNE.

OP you might as well study for and take the NCLEX-RN if it's coming to your province.

As for what to study...before spending $500 on Kaplan use google or quizlet there seems to be lots of their question trainers "out there"...all 7 of them, do trainers 5,6, and 7. I'm a fan of learning extension by NCSBN, its cheap and I actually think the questions are harder than kaplan's with better explanations. It depends on your needs.

Kaplan is more a strategy based program, learning extension is content based. What I do like about kaplan is the analysis it gives of each questions as it pertains to the NCLEX areas you are weak in so you know what areas you need to study. Learning ext does not provide such detailed analysis. Kaplan also has content related videos (not the greatest) but learning ext, you have to sit and read the content.

This might be blasphemy on allnurses.com but honestly "I'm also not a fan of Saunders". There I said it. I've had it for almost 2 years and cant get past a single chapter. I'm very visual and for content I use Illustrated Study guide for NCLEX-RN which is an ebook from pageburst/evolve, it has quite a few pictures and memory tips and just the layout is better than Saunders, in my opinion. Any procedures or equipment I use youtube to SEE what they referring to rather than just read it.

Anyways..I'm yet to take the nclex...so dont take my word for it, it just what works for me. Everyone is different. I should know in a couple of weeks if what I did actually worked.

Yes the provincial colleges of nursing have access to your previous failures. You need authorization from the CoN to sit the NCLEX in Canada just like you need authorization from a State BoN to sit the NCLEX in the US
