I didn't know anyone still had the "GN" designation-- I thought that went out with NCLEX-almost-on-demand.
Surprising, huh? It's still the case in most States, though. At one time, even with the nearly-immediate results and near-daily testing availability, hospitals still wanted to get the GNs in the door to fill the nursing holes. So they'd hire now, deal with any failed tests later.
I imagine that since most places have their pick of the litter, they'd also be looking for someone with a license over one that has yet to take the NCLEX.
Hello!! I am in need of direction... I took Boards last Friday and found out I FAILED, not only did I fail but I failed terriblythe computer shut off at 80 questions!!
I have been working as a GN in MI/SICU since the end of Janurary and now since I no longer have a GN license I can not enter a patient's room, can't touch a patient, I can't even transport a patient. This hurts even more because I feel like I am being punished....like I am not punishing myself enough!! Soooo now I am trying to get over the fact I have to pay another 350.00 (after my pay has been decreased in half) and the very important fact I have to retake Boards again!
I do have somewhat of a plan. I took the Hurst review, which was awesome, but I did not have time to practice Nclex style questions before testing. The hurst has a 45 day remediation class that I plan on taking, but I need a good Nclex question practice book.
If anyone has any words of wisdom and a book they suggest that will help with Nclex questions I would appreciate it. Thanks in advance!
I'm sorry to hear you didn't pass. I do think practicing questions is key to success. Now that you have taken the test you know what you are in for. I used this site exclusively to prepare: http://nursing.slcc.edu/nclexrn3500/mainMenu.do. There are lots of SATA questions there under Alternate Format.
You only have to pay $200 to Pearson Vue, your background check is still good.
