University of Michigan (UofM) Accelerated program

U.S.A. Michigan

Hi everyone!!! I am new to allnurses.com - I was wondering if anyone has applied for the Fall 2009 accelerated program? I have not been able to attend an information session due to scheduling conflicts. Does anyone know how many people apply to the program or know any "insider" info? I know that 50 people get in every year - I just submited my application last week for the early response deadline - good luck to all!!

I applied. Do you guys know how many applicants for the Fall cohort they're taking for the Second Career option?

p.s. I could've sworn I saw that a supplemental nursing essay was required but now I don't see it, am I imagining things or just reading too many other college's requirements....

They take 72 people.

There were 4 essays. 2 on the general application and 2 on what the Common Application calls the "supplement" application. That was the part that was specific to the university. So the essays you should have done were one that elaborated on an activity you've done, why you're transferring, what community you belong to, and why you want to go to U of M. I hope that helps! :)

Ok great I got them all then! Thanks!

Anyone else hear anything yet? I tried getting some information out of Michele this week, but as usual was left empty handed. I'm assuming she's learned from past experiences not to divulge too much information, especially since so many of us are ravenously waiting for any word from the program. Fingers and toes are still crossed!

Also, I forgot to ask: has anyone heard how the program views out-of-state applicants? I noticed from their class profiles that very few were out-of-state applicants. I don't know if this is simply because it's wicked expensive or whether they actually don't want out-of-staters. I live in Ann Arbor, but since I went to an out-of-state university they automatically classified me as out-of-state. I turned in all of my information for re-classification, but was told they won't be in any kind of a hurry to get that done before decisions will be made.

Hi, I'm an out of state applicant but don't know how they look at out of states, you'd think they'd want our money, lol!

My application is complete but all I see on my online status is a button that says "view status" and then when I click that there are no other links or info available. It just shows that I applied to the Fall 2012 second career program.

When and where would I see something that tells me I'm waitlisted or accepted and any other items that may be missing from my file?

Maybe it's just too soon, my transcripts arrived to them on the 31st, so I may be jumping the gun on checking. It does say in the wolverine account set up to give them 10 days...lol

Oh and did anyone else get the email that says they extended the deadline to apply?

I did not get anything saying they extended the deadline. I did find out that we will get notified by email, a letter, and wolverine with their decision. In wolverine there will be an additional link that says View Decision...and of course this will be after all applications are reviewed ;)

I didn't get an e-mail about extended deadlines either.

ok I know someone who did get that e-mail. They were going to apply but they got into MSU so they decided not to apply to U of M. They said they are extending the application deadline to March 1st! I wonder why they would do that?? Is it possible they didn't get as many applications this year??

I'm wondering if maybe the switch to 16 months was a deal breaker for some...although I know there are plenty of people that like it, there are also many that don't. That's an additional 4 months of no employment, and paying for insurance if you aren't working, etc. I know at the informational meeting when Michele mentioned that, a ton of hands went up and a bunch of questions were asked. For example, if I get in, I will be quitting a salaried job and will have to live with no income during the course of the program, as well as having to pay tuition and pay for insurance for my whole family, as I'm the insurance carrier. I can see how that MAY reduce numbers for students in this position. Those extra four months will be costly. This is just a guess. I'm still not 100% clear on whether or not the extra 4 months are optional...

I don't think the extra 4 months are optional. It sounds like it's a change to the program so the 12 month program is no longer available. From what they said at the informational session and the e-mail, it sounds like they are adding the extra 4 months to prepare the students to enter a masters program. They are really making it seem that they want all their students now to enter a masters program right away. I think they want to change the program so it's for second degree students who want to get their BSN and get their master's degree.

I hope less people applied...better odds for us all ;)

I wonder how desireable we will be as new grads/new hires with masters and no experience....
