University of Michigan (UofM) Accelerated program

U.S.A. Michigan

Hi everyone!!! I am new to allnurses.com - I was wondering if anyone has applied for the Fall 2009 accelerated program? I have not been able to attend an information session due to scheduling conflicts. Does anyone know how many people apply to the program or know any "insider" info? I know that 50 people get in every year - I just submited my application last week for the early response deadline - good luck to all!!

I'm in the program now, and we were informed that the extra 4 months were to add in 2 master's courses. They are trying to convince students to continue with master's degrees.
How's it going? What is a typical week like as far as your schedule goes? Do you love it or is it awful?! Also, as far as clinicals are concerned, do they try to place you near your home, or do you have any say in the location?
Many students from the 2012 class were also waitlisted.

Students that eventually got in? Any idea about when they heard? I am also interested in hearing what a typical week looks like. Thanks for coming on to share!

If anyone is out of state that is attending the program, how much aid did you/they get?

Mine took about a week and a half before they showed up on Wolverine Access.

Spartan89, since you already found out that you're waitlisted can you do me a favor and check your Common Application website and see if by the supplemental application part it says downloaded? It says on mine that the application was "downloaded" but by the supplemental part it just say "complete". I'm just trying to figure out if they download it right before they review your application or if that "status" doesn't change at all.

It just says "complete" by my supplemental app as well, so I'm guessing that doesn't change. Hope everyone gets good news soon! :)

Tue: Class 1000 - 1600

Wed: Clinical 0630 - 1400

Fri: Clinical 1400 - 2200

Sat: Study

Sun: Study

Clinical days/times vary according to your placement. There are two groups this semester that have a Wed pm clinical then a Thu morning clinical -- I feel sorry for them.

We had very little say in our clinical placement this year. My OB clinical was 1:15 from where I live.

Thank you for the info. At least there is a week day with no classes or clinicals. They must want you to experience day and night shift nursing to see the difference. Both of my sisters are nurses and neither had evening clinicals (u of d mercy and hfcc).

I don't know anyone in the program right now from out of state, but I do have a friend who works in financial aid who said that getting the full amount of out-of-state tuition shouldn't be a problem. She said a lot of it will be loans, but most lenders see it as a pretty sound investment on your part. She also said that you can also get a childcare subsidy through the second career program if you need it. Hopefully it will be something that I'll have to worry about. I still haven't heard anything. Has anyone else out there caught wind of anyone getting in? Spartan89 is the only one I've heard of hearing from the SON.

I'm currently in the program and from out-of-state. Because this is a second bachelor's program, there is not much available in terms of state or federal grants. You'll get the maximum in federal direct loans ($5,500 subsidized, $7,000 unsubsidized) for the school year, but almost everyone gets this regardless of in/out-of-state status. Many of us supplemented with private loans, which is what I had to do.

Also the spring/summer semester is considered part of the next school year so we all have to fill out FAFSA again.

I still haven't heard anything....my concern is that I also applied to OU and won't know until august about their decision, so if u of m accepts me I'd like to know because I could take my remaining 2 prereqs at a community college rather than at OU which they require (PATHO/PHARM), which would be so much cheaper.
