I will be attending HFCC. Is it true that the first year of books is over $1400??

I am hoping this is a huge lie, but I'm afraid that it might not be.

Can anyone give me an idea how much I'm about to spend?

Thank you.

Isn't that with all the optional books included? I kinda priced it out at about 900 with the required ones.

I don't have the current first year at hand, but both of you seem to be correct. There's a big, expensive order the first semester, but the good news is that you use most of them for the second year as well, so your book purchases will be minimal for year #2.

I bought most of my first year books online at the discount book sites, such as www.half.com and www.amazon. com, as well as others. I saved about 25% overall, but I bet I could have saved more if I had started earlier and worked harder.

Don't make the mistake that I did and buy all of the books- required and optional. You an always add to you books later on. With all of the assigned reading its next to impossible to read any of the optional. The one optional book that I recommend is an NCLEX review book. It is never to early to start studying and it will help with your tests. Good luck the time will go by really fast. I'm second year and only 21 days till the end:yeah:

I bought all required books...none of the optional (my teachers side they didn't matter really) They were around $900. Good idea though...either buy them in 2 separate installments or bring someone with you!!! They are VERY heavy and only about half of them will fit in your book bag (I think there was around 12 books) I had a heck of a time getting them back to my car!

i'm not sure off hand but it was definately my most expensive year for books. u definately need the potter and perry, assuming thats what they still use, and thats the most expensive one, don't bother w/the optional ones, and wait till classes start to see which one of the required u'll actually use. also, u can buy the modules ahead of time and look in those to see which ones actually are referenced in the EO/LA questions. sounds confusing but after u open it u'll see what i mean.

hey mybrowneyedgirl,

So I did a little research on half.com this weekend and so far (im not done yet) about 70% of the books I have looked up you can get anywhere from $5 to $20 bucks off :yeah:! Also the books for NSG 120 and 126 they are the same :uhoh3:except for thier manuel and maybe one other! So before you buy your books get organized and if you do buy from HFCC's bookstore order online and then you dont have to wait in the long line you get to go right in they have a special pick up spot for online orders and you dont have to pay shipping:up:!!

Good luck .

The modules are never ready until about 5 days before school, even less.

I think the book changed after my class last year, but there is another poster here would just had that class and would be HAPPY to let you know the reading assignments for any overachievers out there who wanted to start early.

And yes....half.com is a great place! But get them early - the well-priced ones go fast.
