Has anyone here taken it? I'm thinking of signing up for it but I've no Chemistry experience at all and I'm a bit nervous, was wondering how it worked online and if anyone would recommend it.

Thanks in advance!!!

If you have no chemistry experience then there is no way I would suggest you take it online. Chemistry is tough, and you will definitely need the in class explanation and instruction to grasp it fully-- especially with no background. If you have no other option you could take it online but it would be exponentially more difficult to grasp than the traditional classroom route.

Gemberly, I was thinking of signing up for the Hybrid chemistry with the lab being on wednesday, but now WayneStateKatie has me spooked. I've never had chemistry so now I'm debating on it. I love online classes, but this is a science so maybe I'll rethink it. I was even thinking of taking Biology online too. I looked up the professors online too.

I wouldn't worry too much about taking biology online. I was all signed up for it also, until the requirements for the nursing program changed back to what they are now and it wasn't required.

Yeah I wouldn't take it either if I wasn't trying to get into Oakland University. Its one of the pre-req's for them. And isn't it for micro and the second chemitry?

Oh no I didn't mean to freak you out! Now I feel bad. I was just offering my opinion. Chemistry is something a lot of people really struggle with and it is new type of information that's different than anything else. I just think it's better to learn a subject for the first time in a classroom and have people you can turn to and ask for help when needed. If you don't understand a concept right away you can ask for immediate clarification and won't confuse and muddle things.

I would totally take a general bio class online, but I wouldn't do a chem one if I'd never had another chem class (if it was my 2nd or 3rd chem class I"d do it online in a heartbeat). Everyone needs to make a decision based on his or her needs, wants, and availability. I wish everyone good luck and hope whether you take it online or in the class that your chem courses go smoothly:loveya:

thanks gemberly!

I was thinking of taking the online class @ macomb that has lab on Saturdays. Can anyone tell me about the online chem class? How is it structured? I've never taken an online class @ macomb before, just Baker. Are they fairy easy to keep up with?

I've never taken an online class so I can't offer much support in that regard. However, if having the highest possible grade is important to you, take the class in person. Chemistry is tough, and whatever you can do to make life easier, go for it!

I haven't taken an online science class through Macomb but I did take Nutrition and Psych. Both were easy as heck and easy to follow. Assignmets and time lines were spelled out clearly.

I am taking two online science classes currently through another school ( microbiology and A&P2) , and I think they are great as well. By having more assignments due than a normal class, it really helps with the grade. Personally I would have no problem taking an online chemistry class, but I did go to graduate school for chem so I wouldn't take my advice. Judging by most of my friends and other people I knw though, I would consider taking chemistry in person because a lot of people do struggle with it.

Thanks, I just need to get a C in the class; I'm transferring it to another school with a waitlist for the Nursing Program, so entrance is not based on my GPA. Of course I do want to learn and get the best grade I can get though. I'm just considering the online class cause my family has planned a trip to Las Vegas and it falls during the first week of classes (if I were to take it on campus) and I reaaaallly want to go to Vegas! Do anyone know if it matters an extreme amount if I missed the first class @ Macomb? It starts the 27th of August and I'm "suppose" to leave for Vegas on the 25th. If it doesn't then I would definetly take it on campus as opposed to online.

I took the hybrid organic chemistry course at Macomb Community College and it was excellent. The instructor was one of the best teachers I've ever had. If you think about the typical lab science class, it's usually an instructor lecturing for an hour or two or three, then a three-hour lab. It was the same, only instead of sitting in class for the lecture, the lectures were online. He had review sheets for the four exams and the online lectures were reviews of the material that would be on the exam and he usually included several examples of each type of question. The instructor was a very friendly guy, never made you feel stupid, and responded to e-mails. I saw people getting help from him during lab every week. He also had office hours outside of class time. I'm not sure if we're allowed to mention instructor names on this board. If you want more information, the name of the instructor, or anything else about the class, let me know.
