Nursing Shoes - Mens

Nurses Men

Published

Hi all, after being raised in a medical family and then after 18 years in sales, I have recently been accepted in an RN program starting in 4 weeks.

I am looking for some advice. . .my program allows for white, NON LOGO'd shoes only - no sneakers, no clogs. Can anyone recommend a brand, something comfortable. Funny thing is that I am a hard fit for shoes, 10.5/11 4E wide. . . .I can get away with 3E depending on manufacturer. I will make sure but I dont think they will allow me to go the clog route either.

Any direction is appreciated

Thanks

Z

No sneakers? What's left? Ask them to provide a written defintion of a sneaker. Most web definitions call it a canvas sport shoe with a rubber sole. Many shoes today have faux leather or nylon uppers instead. If that doesn't work I'd ask for a waiver. Ask them what the options are. Find some white tennis shoes that fit and call them nursing shoes. Anything nonporous like faux leather can be cleaned and so be OSHA compliant. Yikes, good luck.

yes good luck! that sounds very vague like how my school worded it in our literature when I was in nursing school. I found New Balance (all white walking shoe) to be the best. it had a few marks of blue around the lettering, but were all leather. Go to a local shoe specialty store and double check. They were comfortable for me, but I would also double check with the school. quite often they say one thing, but open up a little bit on these small issues

Yeah, I also got the ubiquitous, New Balance, white, leather walking shoe. I don't see why they have to be white. It's stupid. We wear BLACK scrubs, in any style/cut you want, so why not black shoes? Anyway, I change into the white shoes out in the parking lot, and I change back into my good shoes once I exit the building.

If you absolutely can't wear that then look for a white diabetic shoe or something. They're pretty plain and nasty looking like the traditional nurse uniform.

I can't imagine not having sneakers to choose from. I'm lucky enough to have a Reebok outlet about a half hour away. So far I've gotten away with black running shoes. Mostly nylon, they are perfect for 3rd shift.

Featherweight, cool, and they don't make enough noise to wake the one or two that are actually asleep.

On the other hand, after decades of factory work, I kind of miss the ankle support. Been thinking about seeing how these would go over with supervision.

(steel toes for those really heavy patients too!)

Might be something to consider...:smokin:

Check out adidas brand. I had to have an all white shoe, as well, even though I wear a size 18. Little Mrs. Instructor apparently didn't understand the difficulty of finding a size 18 since her husband wears a 12 and has not problem finding various shoes....yeah, anyway. I found this all white adidas as the only all white shoe in my size. Good luck with the extra wide part, that has to suck. I'd check out ebay, shoebuy.com, and eastbay.com, thats where I've been getting all of my shoes for the past several years.

Have been using Reebok Zigtech since they came out - LOVE THEM, light as a cloud with unbelievable support, my feet no longer hurt after the terrible 12s!

SAS San Antonio shoes-they come in bone, black and white. All leather with a washable insert. Very comfortable but get ready for the "gay shoes" comments from the macho men. I've worn them for 20+ years with no spurs, shin splints, plantar fascitis, etc. Got me through total knee surgery too!

On the topic of shoes it'll be hard to get something without a logo unless you buy it and remove the stitches that hold the logo on.

For interest's sake though, I am plagued by ongoing ankle pain/arthritis (yes, at age 22) resulting from surgery when I was much younger.

I recently tried the 'MBT' shoe, which has a soft sponge under the heel to promote instability and curves at the front so that you kind of 'roll' when you walk. The instability, which sounds bad, is actually brilliant. It forces the muscles in your legs, buttocks and abdomen to work harder to keep you balanced, which in turn takes pressure OFF your joints so that your muscles tone up and you get significantly LESS JOINT PAIN. It's been life-changing for me as I have been seen hobbling (not just limping) around on my ward sometimes for as long as 3-4 weeks at a time when experiencing a bad episode of chronic ankle pain.

Do consider them if you have ankle/leg/back/neck pain. Worth every single penny of the $375 I paid. Seriously!
