What color of suit to purchase for job interview?
Actually, the last interview I had for some PRN hours at a nursing home, I wore my Hawaiian shirt, golf hat, cargo pants, and loafers. (no socks) Unfortunately, I DID get the job... (I'm dressing down next time.)

The "Flirt"
Kudos to the poster for not mixing work and romance. And sympathy for finding out the hard way that there are people out there who don't care if you do or if you don't.....they are going to judge you according to their own view. But in no other career is the temptation worse. You both arrive at work wearing pajamas. You meet over a bed. You are engaged in life and death decisions together. Nobody else understands the job unless they do it. This creates a false sense of intimacy which too easily leads to the idea that real intimacy exists. Medically based relationships probably workout far less often than other misguided workplace romances. It doesn't take very long for both parties to realize that the only thing they really have in common......is the work. "Moral indignation is simply jealousy with a halo."--H.G.Wells

Men in Nursing Historical Timeline
"But a certain Samaritan, as he journeyed , came where he was: and when he saw him, he had compassion on him, And went to him, and bound up his wounds, pouring in oil and wine, and set him on his own beast, and brought him to an inn, and took care of him. And on the morrow when he departed , he took out two pence, and gave them to the host, and said unto him, Take care of him; and whatsoever thou spendest more , when I come again , I will repay thee." - (Luke 10:33-35) This was not only one of the first examples of male nursing, but also the dawn of co-pay and emergency transport, AND patients confusing a hospital with a hotel....

Nursing Shoes - Mens
I can't imagine not having sneakers to choose from. I'm lucky enough to have a Reebok outlet about a half hour away. So far I've gotten away with black running shoes. Mostly nylon, they are perfect for 3rd shift. Featherweight, cool, and they don't make enough noise to wake the one or two that are actually asleep. On the other hand, after decades of factory work, I kind of miss the ankle support. Been thinking about seeing how these would go over with supervision. (steel toes for those really heavy patients too!) http://www.timberlandworkboot.com/timberland-mens-work-boots-6-inch-white-p-274.html Might be something to consider...

The "Flirt"
Legal, smeagal.....there's no law against someone sticking their nose in your business. Welcome to nursing, where an inordinate number of "self appointed guardians of public morality" reside. You don't even have to engage in flirting at work to get into this kind of trouble. As a male nurse, you can be totally professional at work, and if someone feels threatened by you....your personal life will become ammunition. Allow that personal life outside of work to include a coworker, and you'll be lucky to keep your employment. I'm not saying that this sort of backstabbing doesn't happen in other fields. But we all know that this isn't a job, it's a lifestyle. And also that a well kept secret is harder to find in a medical setting than a unicorn. "There's a reason so many soap operas are filmed in hospitals."....
