MEN, dont come into nursing

Nurses Men

Published

I ve worked in hospitals and nursing homes. It sucks. Dont let people here convince you on how great it is. If you are going back to school dont hang onto the mentality of "nursing is a great career there where always be jobs" that was 10 years ago when that was true. do research, there are no nursing jobs. People from overseas come here by the boat and take jobs. The wage is on the down trend, there are more then enough nurses to replace those ready to retire. Please if you are just getting into college pick a less stressful, good paying career choice. PPLEASE research on forums and here from nurses who are not happy with their career. coorprate has destroyed nursing. Dont listen to the few on here who say nursing is so wonderful, i promise you when they run out of paxil and adivan, which is fueling there happiness, they will no longer be posting on these boards on the issues of how great their jobs are.

The main reason I do not think a system like Canada's will be a bad idea is do you really trust our politicians and Government do the right thing? I can see it now Pelosi: "We Have to Pass the Bill So That You Can Find Out What Is In It" Do not worry we got you .(rolleyes)

The OP is also an ADN and as we know that is limiting his options. (not trying to start a flame war-I'm an LPN and I know how that limits me)

I know having an ADN makes a difference in some parts of the country, but in many parts it does not. A significant percentage of even my managerial staff has their ADN and I don't know a single nurse who was rejected because of that.

I realize there are facilities that will, but it is not true across the board.

All the hospitals where i live will hire you but in five years you have to have your BSN and most say it is strongly recommended to have your BSN they might hire you but the odd might be low.

It is people like the OP that make me stay away from this site. Yea , I just made an account but I been to this site a lot and more of an on looker.

I have been going back to college for a little bit and being a nurse is something the interested me so I looked in to it and talk to people that have no reason not to be truthful with me.

Also seeing I am 30 years old and not getting any younger I did not have too many options as far as a career goes. This is my 2nd time in college and all ready have a degree but I should of picked something else when I was younger . I was just sick of dead end retail jobs. I was sick of working 7 days a week 12 hour days for months at a time and get called selfish because I am not giving enough to the company.

I know nursing is not all puppy dog tails and unicorns. I know what I am getting into and I do worry about not being able to find work once I get my BSN but I am going for it anyway and if it does not work out I will move to get a job. I know if i work my tail off I get a job and keep on grinding .

Also you and I do not know what is going to happen in a few years from now when it come to jobs for nurse I hope it gets better.

There is not a ton of great jobs out there . I do know what I do not want and that is a desk job where i sit all day and do work on the computer. I would be a lawyer but 7 years in college is a long time to wait to start living life. I am too old to get into the construction trade. I like hard work but you do not want to be doing concrete or dry wall work in your 40's . BTW I have do that kind of work before but i was a lot younger. I was looking into becoming a paralegal but anyone can be a paralegal even if you go to school for it there is not many jobs in that field. On top of that any low brow individual can be one . What is stopping a company from firing you or letting you go because the guy at the top nephew or lowbrow son needs a job even thought you do your job and do every thing they need you to and more and stay late show up early and never take a vacation or take days off and so on.

Like I said there is not a lot out there right now and I cant pick the wrong career this time around . I all ready cut my cancerous friends off and give up dating and am all about getting my BSN.

There are plenty of jobs out there for nurses :-) I know how to market myself quite well. As well ya nursing have a ton of BS that we have to deal with...... but I genuinely enjoy the field and not so much who I work with.

Pathetic Thread. I got my job within few weeks of applying. I relocated from Hawaii to ND. I am 5 months in and love every minute of it. I am also doing 50 hours a week. I love what I do.

Based off your past posts you worked in an LTAC facility and you do not seem to be happy and quit during orientation. I dont know what to tell you bro, but You must be a miserable person.

He MAY comeback, or maybe this was troll post...I mean, REAL nurses know how to spell ATIVAN! :cheeky:

Maybe, but he didn't pull the pin. I feel his frustration.

Thinking that an acknowledgment of that frustration , is much more important than judgement on the misspelling of Ativan.

Hopefully, OP will answer my query as to what he is doing now.
