CNA pay in Boston

Hi, I am just curious what the average starting pay for CNAs (PCA or PCT) is in Boston. Specifically MGH or TUFTS but any of the larger hospitals. I tried searching though old threads but it isn't mentioned often and when it is they are from like 2001. I have two years of experience from Maine Medical Center on a med/surg/pulmonary unit.

Also, do you think it is worth the commute from southern NH, if I am in an RN program and would like to work in Boston when I am finished? It sounds like having CNA experience is a leg up when trying to get an RN position at some of these hospitals.

I worked as a tech a few years ago, not in Boston though. I made $14 an hour then. I don't know for sure, but I would think that it would have to be more than that now, especially in Boston.

As for commuting... it might give you a leg up to work as a tech at a Boston hospital and would at least help help you network. But is the cost of gas, parking, traffic, and extra travel time worth it to you?

I made around $14/hr as a tech at Tufts. However, working there (or any hospital) in nursing school is no guarantee of a position there as an RN. I graduated last year, and they were unable to give me (or any other graduating techs) anything. Having a CNA position is a leg up, but is by no means a guaranteed in, so please consider that before signing yourself up for a long commute & expensive parking.

CNAs at MGH make about 14 per hour.

I worked as a PCT at the Brigham, I made $13/hr + shift/evening/night/weekend differential. Graduating in two weeks and unable to get a job there or anywhere in Boston, I'm moving to DC where I got a job in the Children's Hospital there

That's what I'm worried about too. I'm working at a hospital as a CNA but I know once I get my RN license I won't be able to get a job here as an RN. I'm glad to see as a new nurse you can go to DC in the children's hospital. Thank you:lol2:
