ATT codes?
About how long have people been waiting to receive their ATT codes? I spoke with someone at the Office of the Professions in Albany earlier this week and she said that it will take another 2-3 weeks before they process my application. I am getting nervous as I already have a job in New York. I went to school in New Hampshire where most of my fellow students have already sat for, or at least scheduled, their NCLEX exam.

Tattoos and body jewelry policies in hospitals
Of the four hospitals I have worked in, only one had any policy regarding tattoos. I found out that I had to cover up with long sleeves (long after my interviews, orientation etc) so I promptly found another job and then quit. It is not 1950 anymore and I have no interest at all in working anywhere that wants to place those sorts of restrictions on me or on self expression. Oddly enough, most Catholic hospitals I have been in had nurses and other staff showing off their tattoos.

How much do CNA's make these days and is the pay worth the workload?
CNAs and PCTs are the same thing in most areas... I think the pay varies greatly depending on where you are geographically and whether you work in a hospital or a nursing home. Generally speaking, CNAs are not paid enough for what they do but as someone else mentioned, at the end of the day, you know you made a difference and that sure as hell beats working at starbucks while you are in nursing school (or even if you are not in nursing school).

CNA pay in Boston
Hi, I am just curious what the average starting pay for CNAs (PCA or PCT) is in Boston. Specifically MGH or TUFTS but any of the larger hospitals. I tried searching though old threads but it isn't mentioned often and when it is they are from like 2001. I have two years of experience from Maine Medical Center on a med/surg/pulmonary unit. Also, do you think it is worth the commute from southern NH, if I am in an RN program and would like to work in Boston when I am finished? It sounds like having CNA experience is a leg up when trying to get an RN position at some of these hospitals. Thanks in advance.

Who is waiting?
I couldn't take it any longer so I called Manchester today, they said they will mail out letters within the next couple of weeks. The super nice woman I spoke with said that it is taking longer than it has in the past because there are over 400 applicants this year (for 64 seats)! I guess this is twice the amount of people who applied last year. This wait is driving me up the wall.

Applying for jobs- Help!
As far as Northern New England goes... I have lived in VT, NH and ME and I went to school in MA. Boston has several of the nations best hospitals. IMO, if you aren't going to work in Boston, then the best hospitals are Dartmouth Hitchcock in Hanover (or is it Lebanon?) and Maine Medical Center in Portland, ME. They are the only hospitals in Northern NE that make the US News and World Report rankings. Maine Medical Center just completed construction on an new, enormous women & children's center also. Fletcher Allen in Burlington, VT doesn't get as good of reviews as the others I have mentioned, but Burlington is a really, really great place to live. Boston, MA, Burlington, VT and Portland, ME are the only cities here that I would consider living in for the long term, I live in Manchester, NH right now. I am going to move away from NH the second that I graduate. I would never dream of raising children here or living here any longer than I have to. If I worked at Dartmouth Hitchcock, I would commute from Vermont. I can't really tell you much about RI or CT, other than Providence seems like a cool city and Yale New haven is supposed to be a good hospital.
