University of Maryland Spring 2010 Accepted Students

U.S.A. Maryland

Hi all soon to be fellow classmates! I just wanted to start this thread up so we didn't have to go weaving through all of the older stuff on the old threads.

I am really excited about starting school come January, really nervous though too. I have a lot to get done between now and then and sometimes I just don't think there is enough time in the day. Oh well, I plan on enjoying the holidays and working my buns off to save some money so that isn't an additional stressor during the first semester.

So lets post our questions, our thoughts and hopefully just get to know one another! And again....CONGRATULATIONS!!!!

thanks so much for your reply and great advice. you know you're hilarious right? you had me cracking up in your last paragraph! thanx for that i needed it.

For shoes, I've been impressed by Earth shoes. Not the greatest looking shoes out there but they are very very comfy and great for standing or walking for a long time (see planetshoes.com). I've been addicted to these shoes. You may find one that is all-white and all-leather.

Sylvia..I'm on the same boat. I don't have kids but geez, I'm a little bit worried about the heavy work load and only very few weeks of break like you said, plus all the adjustment. However, like what Roses said, you've gone this far so I'm sure you can do it no prob. But it's up to you on how much stress you want to put up with. I'm planning on taking all the courses as outlined but the moment I feel aarrrgghhhh, I'll lessen my work load and see if summer school is an option.

Those who will be going to ShadyGrove (Thumbs), please continue posting as to your experience in the SG campus for the 1st semester. I wonder if I can change later should Baltimore not work out for me...but then again, it's only 2 years of the Baltimore city life.

... also they told me to not talk to the medical students because they scope out and use the new nursing students--not that i'm that way but it's nice to know when a cute med student starts being nice to steer clear... i could go on and on with their fun bits of advice :loveya:

Haha Roses. Please share more advise.....

Thanks to Emil for starting this thread.

haha ill have to remember the med student thing;) my aunt and uncle are doctors and were having crazy thoughts i would meet one eventually, ill have to tell them their dreams are dashed!!

as for shoes i have been looking too. i have read on other forums kswiss and newbalance were good.

Ok I will report on Shady grove once we get underway. I was looking forward to going to school again in Baltimore but I am at the mercy of my in laws for child care. So I would have been waiting every morning hoping they would make it the hour drive through rush hour traffic and then make the hand off of my little girl and then try to make it to class or a clinical. They live near Shady Grove so my family and I will be living with them most of the week and I can have more control over getting where I need to be on time etc.

I am with you on taking classes part time. That is how I did the pre reqs. I focused on one class that I was worried about and it was no problem. Having 4 at once makes me nervous. But I need to get through the program as quickly as I can( and actually pass) so I can get my license and get the job. Not to mention return to sleeping in my own bed.

I am at Shady Grove Campus too. My husband and I live pretty far, but are looking to move a bit west after this semester. The commute will be horrible, but I am glad to be back in school. If you find a good deal on books, I would love the info. Thanks!

i cannot stress ebay enough- there are prior nursing students just dying to sell those books, but make sure you understand that if you go with an amazing low price that the book might be beat up a bit- just don't buy from the bookstore-they are so overpriced it's scary- it's cheaper to buy it from the publisher and right now most online bookstores aren't charging shipping because they're hurting so bad

Maybe I am just missing it as I have not had time to look into it much with finals right now, but where is the list of books required for the first semester of classes? Thanks!

see the bookstore website: http://umb.bncollege.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/BNCBHomePage?storeId=34553&catalogId=10001&langId=-1

on the left is a very user-friendly system for entering our classes 304,315,320, 333...it will spit out the entire list including recommended books and equipment needs

the part about that site that annoys me is I've heard that some students say to not buy the required stuff and then there's some of the recommended stuff that you need to buy.... argh- I wish we didn't have to depend on a website and we could get a list or an email from our to be teachers....

I get anxious when I don't have my books for the first week of classes. But, Kathie from SG campus did say we should wait till the professors tell us which books we do need. I did hear that pathopharm is all from lecture slides, so no books needed.

I was wondering if anyone know if SG campus are live professors or recordings from Baltimore campus. I'm debating if I should buy a netbook for classes. I guess I can ask Kathie directly, but I feel like I asked her a lot of questions already.

Regarding the medical form, if people noticed two lines/results for PPD. We do need two PPD tests done, within 1-2 weeks from the 1st one. I have to go back for another :o

Hah - I just had to laugh a little bit. This will never happen.

Btw...any other Fall 2011 students procrastinating on this site instead of studying for patho?

And seriously...you don't need book the first week or so. If I were u...I'd go to class...meet some students in the previous semester "ahem" and ask them if they'd like to sell their books to you. Won't get a better deal anywhere else.
