Hi all soon to be fellow classmates! I just wanted to start this thread up so we didn't have to go weaving through all of the older stuff on the old threads.

I am really excited about starting school come January, really nervous though too. I have a lot to get done between now and then and sometimes I just don't think there is enough time in the day. Oh well, I plan on enjoying the holidays and working my buns off to save some money so that isn't an additional stressor during the first semester.

So lets post our questions, our thoughts and hopefully just get to know one another! And again....CONGRATULATIONS!!!!

i ask grey lady about the 304 communications model and she said we didnt have to sign up for it.

most people buy their own scrubs and sew the patch on. I used my labcoat from microbiology. If you aren't sure about where the patch goes its in the student handbook on the website or wait until school starts and get guidance from your instructor.

Yes. I think we do need to register 304 class w/ communication module. She explained it was only for Shady Grove (why? i don't recall)! I'm still waiting to be cleared for registration? I know some people have already signed up, but it took a couple of days to be cleared. Right? Maybe the registration office is busy around this time.

Here's her response (why do you guys call her Grey Lady? I think I missed something) "The Communications Module is a 4 week course and is part of N304 which is a 4 credit class. No additional credits are awarded for the Communications Module but it is a required part of the N304 class."

Anyone bringing laptops to class? I'm thinking of buying a netbook for lighter travel. Any suggestions for good deals?

that's her handle online. re laptops, i'm happy w/ mac and though not as small as netbook, it's small enough to be carried around.

i have a question for those who have gone through the 1st year already, please share any advise / experience that you feel helpful for us newbies....ie, courseload (what to focus on), in clinicals: what to watch out for, etc.

thanks guys!

I'm still waiting to get cleared for registration as well. I'll be going to SG. My account doesn't even have a link for registration. Maybe I should call IT help...

i have a very old mac, i do like their sizes but i'm not a wiz at it so i want to stick w/ windows. 7 is pretty good so far.

there should be a link in your account. it gives me an error that i can't register yet. i hope IT can help.

Did you get the class list you should register for in your packet? If so, that's a problem because the curriculum changed starting this spring. First semester classes are 304, 315, 333 and 320, not 405. You only register for the lecture part of 304, the Communications Module you are assigned to - it is only a four week extra class that is part of 304. I don't think it always starts the very first week of school.

Make sure you review your packet carefully as it should give you instructions about your school email account. If it is not there it will be coming. In the meantime you can use your current email address on the registration form.

I don't have a copy of the new admits packet yet but hope to soon so I will be more sure about my answers. It's kind of hard without having seen it - maybe some things have changed that I don't know about.

this is the response i got when i asked her.

Hello all,

I just finished my last prereq exam today. I am feel much better now that I am going to UMB definitely.

Rose.. thank you for starting the thread. I have a question regarding the registeration for CNL student, if there is any out here. I pay the deposit and already contact my advisor. What's next? how can I register online? Do I need to wait for them to send me the form?

Please help,

Blondell

Can a previous student please do us future nursing students a favor by going over what text we will definitely be needing. It seems like the safest thing to do is buy all the "required" texts from the bookstore and then return whatever books the prof. says we don't need.

There really is no need to buy these books at the bookstore or all new editions. I saved a ton of money buy buying from half.com and othe online places.

hi! 16 month CNL here. Just registered for classes, and now I am looking up books. I compared the ones in the bookstore to the ones on Amazon and half.com, but either the editions or the years don't match up. I don't want to get the wrong editions, but I'd love to save about $300. Also, I was wondering about the scrubs and shoes. We need a white top and light brown/khaki colored bottoms, is this correct? And for the shoes, does anyone know if they need to be 100% white, or can they have a little bit of color?

I'm pretty excited, can't wait to get to know all of you!!

I was finally able to register on Friday night. When you add Communication Module (Shady Grove only), it'll have a 0 next to it so our total credits for full-time semester is 15 :)

I also got a reply from the president running the "sale" during orientation, they have a package deal of $86 which includes the Littman Classic II SE stethoscope, penlight, pocket organizer w pen, and bandage scissors. I might wait till then to get it. Did students already buy them off the websites (standris of allheart)?
