University of Maryland Spring 2010 Accepted Students

U.S.A. Maryland

Hi all soon to be fellow classmates! I just wanted to start this thread up so we didn't have to go weaving through all of the older stuff on the old threads.

I am really excited about starting school come January, really nervous though too. I have a lot to get done between now and then and sometimes I just don't think there is enough time in the day. Oh well, I plan on enjoying the holidays and working my buns off to save some money so that isn't an additional stressor during the first semester.

So lets post our questions, our thoughts and hopefully just get to know one another! And again....CONGRATULATIONS!!!!

Seriously? How did you know about this? I haven't heard of a sale.... I went and bought my Littman off of allheart.com .... what else are they going to be selling as package deals at orientation? How do you know the President?

Or is this only for the CNLs?

Just a little frustrated here... but my Littmann does have my name on it now- but that may not mean anything in the end I guess

I was finally able to register on Friday night. When you add Communication Module (Shady Grove only), it'll have a 0 next to it so our total credits for full-time semester is 15 :)

I also got a reply from the president running the "sale" during orientation, they have a package deal of $86 which includes the Littman Classic II SE stethoscope, penlight, pocket organizer w pen, and bandage scissors. I might wait till then to get it. Did students already buy them off the websites (standris of allheart)?

mine's already been bought as a Christmas gift from my grandparents- awesome that we know there is a president and anything being sold at orientation... super. How'd you know about this? Will they be selling discounted books too? It would be nice to know what's going on... or anything else I missed....

just as annoyed as Roses here :argue:

hey! at least yours is personalized :) i was about to buy it from allhearts too but then i asked Grey Lady if she knew how much it was at the sale. So she forwarded my e-mail to the president who e-mailed me back w/ the answer! I read about the sale because Grey Lady mentioned it in the orientation paragraph in her e-mail.

i don't know what else they'll be selling. it'll be nice to buy "lab coats" on the spot, but I understand they sell it at the bookstore? I'm guessing I'll have to go to the B-more one.

Btw, I'm BSN, not CNL... is there a difference w/ the package for BSN or CNL? We' probably have to use the same "equipments", so I think it's a general package.

are we going to get another package? I'm BSN too... I understand FALL 2009 got 3 things in the mail

1. acceptance letter as well as status updated online (we got this in our big packet)

2. Medical package and intial hey you're in package (we've gotten this)

3. Course book list package and other stuff (I don't know if we're going to get this?)

Also, I was wondering about the scrubs and shoes. We need a white top and light brown/khaki colored bottoms, is this correct? And for the shoes, does anyone know if they need to be 100% white, or can they have a little bit of color?

yes that is our "school" colors. I am so against light-colored clothes but I'll get used to it. And, in the packet, it described the foot wear of all white leather. It'll be safest to go with all white. I know I want colors in mine too but it's their requirements.

Course books can be found online. Follow Grey Lady's instructions in e-mail. That's how I found the list of books, there's a LOT of "recommended" ones but you should wait till we start classes to see which ones we do need.

I don't think we'll be getting any more "package" from UMB now till orientation days. We just show up bright and early for the orientation (okay, maybe you'll get another letter or email regarding the time/place for the orientation days). Sorry, I misread that. I meant, the package that will be on sale at orientation... I don't think there's a difference in the equipments we'll have to buy if you're either a CNL or BSN.

so excited for the orientation!!

i got my apartment situation under control and now i just need to get books.

I found a pen light in my house and i think i have bandage scissors, ill have to check allheart for a steth.

where did you settle on? I really want to do the Fayette Square Apartments but I don't have the money now, but next semester! I looked at the Ridgely Delight area and it was priced okay, but I didn't like the specific townhouse they had 'left' it was kinda the worse one

i decided on a studio across martin luther on lombard its really close. the studio is almost on martin luther so its a 2 min walk, the area further down is a little sketchy though. I dont really mind, its not like im going to be walking alone at night and the apartment seemed secure to me. Im gonna be paying 525 a month including utilities, so its pretty good. the ad is on the housing site under joe bevik. i saw a couple others, they werent as nice ( i need a bathtub and one had only a shower) but they are decent if your not picky.

haha... nice... congrats on the apartment.... sounds like a great price... bathtubs are always a plus

I don't know about you guys but I am sooo PUMPED for next semester!!!! :stdnrsrck: and a wee bit scared :D

I still don't believe that I'm going to be a nursing student in Jan... It hasn't kicked in yet, but I'm sure I'll be super nervous during orientation!
