WOW, I am really glad to see that im not the only one going through a mid life crisis and changing careers (LOL). I am 42 with 2 grown kids and closed down a very sucessful construction company to become a RN. I am in my first semester and we started with 54 students with only 5 guys. We have lost 1 already because of the drug testing. I know that this is a very challenging program but I have always done well under pressure so I am excited. If anyone has any words of encouragement then feel free to interject.

Am a 50-year old career changer, in New Jersey. Just started in nursing school (BSN program). There are 65 new students, and over 10% (around 15 of them) are men.

    Hey Man,

I know what you are saying, I think this has to do with sterotypes and the public image of male nurses. Glad that you did give up buddy, Am 27 and going to grduate in the fall of 2007.

    Cheers,

Second semester RN student here. I'm glad to see I'm just one of the many guys swimming in the estrogen ocean that is nursing. I'm one of two guys in a class of 25. The other is teetering on the edge of failing out already. We have 18 PN's joining us as part of a bridge program and there is supposed to be one or two guys in that program.

    Good luck all!

I am one of 4 men in a class of 43 students in a BS program. We all graduate (that is with help from above) this May.
Right now studies are tough. Lots to do to complete the semester.
    Best of success to everyone.

I'm a RN student graduating in May this year. Also a male, married to a beautiful young lady. Also a RRT/RPFT and have worked in Resp. Care for over 16 years. There are 5 guys (including me) out of 17 in our class. Men in the healthcare other than medicine are becoming more common. We have alot of men RNs at the hospital I practice Resp at. My brother in law is an RN in the ER. Most men go into management or ER, CCU, OR, etc. We are not alone. :Melody:

I've been a LPN since '92. We started out with 8 guys in a class of 60. We graduated 3 guys and 21 gals in that class. Starting LPN to RN in May...will have to wait and see how many of us as opposed to them there are :-P

BTW, I am also a father of 2 boys under the age of 3 right now. The wife got her BSN 2 years ago. I've been working in LTC for the past 6 years. Prior to that, Ortho, med-surg, occupational medicine, home health, and a GI office
