manhattan/New York City/surrounding areas
A guy??? wow what are the odds. Have you heard back from them and are you accepting the position if its offered? I'm sure you probably will and you should. I've lived in Manhattan before and it is nothing like the south as far as culture goes. If your looking for an apartment its best not to go through the real estate people unless you just want to dish out extra money for something you could do yourself. Check out the ads in the local papers...I think the http://www.villagevoice.com is one that has some ads where people are sub-leasing or have a place they own and want to rent. Ask around about different areas and definetly don't sign anything unless you check the neighborhood out. Upper east side and some of the upper west side (columbus circle) are great areas . Let me know if there is anything I can answer to help you, you've been a great help to me...thanks again.:monkeydance:

What do you think?
I started my senior year practicum in a NICU and here is an observation after 100 hours completed. It feels weird listening to all the private conversations nurses have infront of patients and/or family. Some topics are totally not right. Especially, when the subject is nude pictures of di**s and breast sizes. As a guy, when the group conversations go to subjects that as a guy I problably should not comment on, what should i do when I am right there in the group? Much like many here, I am the only guy among a sea of women RNs and MDs. Any suggestions. :trout::welcome::monkeydance:

Can you please help me if you know where I can apply. I am in GA now and its hard to find all the hospitals to apply and call from my computer. Thank you Mr. Nurse :welcome:

How do I control my nerves / Help
I'm a senior in my last semester beginning my leadership/residency this coming week. I have been at in many moments like the one your talking about many times in nursing school, usually around exams, clinicals, and finals. Take the fear (anxiety) you are feeling and use that energy to get past these next few days. Think of them and take them one at a time. What your feeling can help you perform at the top of your game by using it to prepare. Listen to the first reply on this post, self-relaxation techniques and stuff. I advice against xanax b/c you may not respond to it the way you would want and you could lose an opportunity here to shine. Above all, I've learned nothing can take the place of telling yourself that you can do it, despite feeling differently in parts of your mind. Many have made it before you and take courage from that. REPEAT AFTER ME......I CAN DO THIS!!!!

Is there power in the color white?
Hey ya'll lots of great thoughts posted. My feeling is that the image of the nurse in a white dress and cap can not be the image of nursing today or the future if more men are to come into the profession. I agree with pom poms posting but also believe nurses ought to have their own professional attire if we are to be percieved as professionals and not labor staff. Its tough to say if one uniform can fit all nurses in all area's. I don't believe thats possible since some deal with more body fluids than others, but I'm glad this is being debated by so many. It will hopefully lead to something most will agree with.:monkeydance:

How are male nurses perceived?
Hey just want to encourage you to stick to your plan despite the old bitter nurse you ran into. Male nursing students are like stars in my school and i always get more attention on the hospital floor.
