So maybe I'm a bit old fashioned, but I think there is a way to act while one is at work and a way to act elsewhere. I was interviewing someone for a management position in my building. The first 2 interviews were held with the administrator. Then I took this candidate on a tour of my building. We were walking down the hall and he asks "Is that a dragon fly on your leg?"

"Yes it is" I said wondering why he would comment on my leg. Then he asks, "Were you drunk when you got it??"

What?!?! I know I don't look my age or act my age but come on....you're really asking the DNS if she were drunk when she got a tattoo?

I'm offering the guy the job because I think he'll be really good in the position, but I'll have to tell him to keep the questions about people's tats to himself.

I have come to the conclusion that the brain to mouth filter is really broken on some people. Why people feel the need to verbalize each and every little thought that comes to mind is beyond me!

Ok, fine, THINK to yourself "I wonder if he/she was drunk when they got that" but to come out and say it to, of all people, the person who is going to decide to hire you or not AND who will be your "top dog" boss..just stupid!

Sorry, but I had to laugh! NOT appropriate by any means, but very funny. Some people have foot-in-mouth syndrome and just cannot put a cork in it when a cork needs to be put! :)

I have been asked that several times... if I were drunk when I got my tattoo. I always reply that getting my tattoo was well thought out and not something I decided to obtain in a drunken haze lol. Perhaps it is the location...it is a snake encircling my arm really high up and it goes close to my armpit. I guess they think I had to have been drunk to withstand that or something hehehehehe...Actually it didn't hurt that bad. When you have given birth (or passed a kidney stone) :D... a tattoo is a breeze lol. I have also noticed it has ALWAYS been a man who asked me that question.

I hope this story doesn't give away my 'true' identity--

One of my best friends was turning 65 and for her birthday wanted to do something she had never done before. Trouble is she's done lots and lots of things. So we narrowed it down to 3 things: Skydiving, smoking dope in the woods, or tattoos. I said I wouldn't ever jump out of a plane---osteoporosis is my excuse. I offered to try to get some marijuana to smoke but she was afraid she'd 'have a bad trip'. So off we went to the tattoo parlor. There were 3 of us...all nurses. We went a week before to make sure the place was clean and his technique was sterile. Except for the pain it was a gigantic hoot! And, no, none of us was drunk.

I hope this statement doesn't "out" me also... but LMAO @ the "bad trip".... more likely you would have EAT yourself silly, giggled insanely, and fell asleep afterwards. ;) I am like you about the skydiving.... no way in hades I am doing that...had someone try to get me to bungee jump once. I told them I would watch them do it, but count me out!

I agree, I believe too there is a time and place for everything. I am closer to my boss then most, but I couldn't imagine asking her that, especially an interview for a prospective job. On a sidenote- when I turned 30 I couldn't decide what I wanted to do either. So, I dyed my hair a dark black with purple highlights, got a purple rose tattooed on my ankle and a belly ring put in. Now that was almost 10 years ago, and I finally just took the belly ring out not too long ago. Most of my staff dont believe me when I tell them.
